Abstract

Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for interaction-based user identification. An embodiment operates by receiving an interaction between a user and a mobile device. The mobile device can communicate with a streaming media device. Based on the interaction, an identity of the user is determined. User settings corresponding to the identity for the streaming media device are determined. The streaming media device is configured based on the user settings.

Claims (60)

1. A computer implemented method comprising:

receiving, at a mobile device, an interaction between a user and the mobile device, wherein the mobile device is communicatively coupled to a streaming media device;

determining an identity of the user;

detecting a capacitance change of the mobile device caused by how the user handles the mobile device based on the interaction;

comparing the capacitance change to one or more previously stored capacitance changes from one or more users;

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored capacitance changes corresponds to received capacitance change;

determining user settings of a streaming media device corresponding to the identity of the user, including a time restriction for the user; and

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein upon reaching the time restriction the user is prevented from accessing content on the streaming media device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining the identity comprises:

determining that the interaction comprises a voice command from the user;

comparing the voice command to one or more previously stored voice samples from one or more users; and

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored voice samples corresponds to received voice command.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the capacitance change comprises a fluid distortion inside the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the capacitance change comprises detecting a temperature of the user's hand.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining comprises determining a plurality of users, and wherein the streaming media device is configured based on user settings associated with the plurality of users.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the time restriction applies to a family of multiple users including the identified user, wherein the time restriction accumulates time for each of the multiple users to determine if the time restriction has been reached.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a prompt is provided to confirm the identity of the user after the configuring.

8. A computer implemented method comprising:

receiving, from a mobile device, an interaction between the user and the mobile device;

determining an identity of the user;

detecting a capacitance change of the mobile device caused by how the user handles the mobile device based on the interaction;

comparing the capacitance change to one or more previously stored capacitance changes from one or more users;

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored capacitance changes corresponds to received capacitance change;

determining user settings of a streaming media device corresponding to the identity of the user, including a time restriction for the user; and

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein upon reaching the time restriction the user is prevented from accessing content on the streaming media device.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the determining the identity comprises:

determining that the interaction comprises a voice command from the user;

comparing the voice command to one or more previously stored voice samples from one or more users; and

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored voice samples corresponds to received voice command.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the capacitance change comprises a fluid distortion inside the mobile device.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the capacitance change comprises detecting a temperature of the user's hand.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the determining the identity comprises determining a plurality of users, and wherein the streaming media device is configured based on user settings associated with the plurality of users.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the configuring comprises:

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein the configured streaming media device provides different content before and after the configuration.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein the configuration changes how the content is provided to the user over one or more output devices.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the user settings indicate a video output or audio output setting of at least one of the output devices.

16. A tangible computer-readable device having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, causes the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving, at a mobile device, an interaction from a user of the mobile device,

wherein the mobile device is communicatively coupled to a streaming media device, and wherein the interaction is an interaction between the user and the mobile device;

determining an identity of the user;

detecting a capacitance change of the mobile device caused by how the user handles the mobile device based on the interaction;

comparing the capacitance change to one or more previously stored capacitance changes from one or more users;

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored capacitance changes corresponds to received capacitance change;

determining user settings corresponding to the identity, including a time restriction for the user; and

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein upon reaching the time restriction the user is prevented from accessing content on the streaming media device.

17. A computer implemented method comprising:

receiving, at a mobile device, an interaction between a user and the mobile device, wherein the mobile device is communicatively coupled to a streaming media device;

determining, based on the interaction, an identity of the user;

determining user settings of a streaming media device corresponding to the identity of the user, including a time restriction for the user, wherein the time restriction applies to a family of multiple users including the identified user, and wherein the time restriction accumulates time for each of the multiple users to determine if the time restriction has been reached; and

configuring the streaming media device based on the user settings, wherein upon reaching the time restriction the user is prevented from accessing content on the streaming media device.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the determining an identity comprises:

determining that the interaction comprises a voice command from the user;

comparing the voice command to one or more previously stored voice samples from one or more users; and

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored voice samples corresponds to received voice command.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the determining an identity comprises:

comparing a capacitance change of the mobile device caused by how the user handles the mobile device to one or more previously stored capacitance changes from one or more users; and

determining, based on the comparing, the identity of the user, wherein the one or more of the stored capacitance changes corresponds to received capacitance change.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the capacitance change comprises a fluid distortion inside the mobile device.

21. The method of claim 19 , wherein the capacitance change comprises detecting a temperature of the user's hand.
