Abstract

A computer-based system maintains and provides a graphical authoring tool on a display device that enables a user to create a narrative storyline for uploading to a database system. The authoring tool operates to receive text content for a first passage of the narrative storyline, and text content for a second passage of the narrative storyline, establish a link from the first passage to the second passage, and assign user personality trait characteristics to the link. The trait characteristics influence personality trait profiles maintained by the database system for readers of the narrative storyline when the readers select the link to obtain the second passage. The authoring tool operates to upload the narrative storyline data from the computer-based system to the database system. The uploaded data includes the text content for the passages, the link, and the user personality trait characteristics assigned to the link.

Claims (37)

1. A method for authoring narrative storyline content, the method comprising:

providing an authoring tool on a client device coupled to a database system;

creating, by the authoring tool, a narrative storyline for uploading to the database system;

receiving, by the authoring tool, text content for a first passage of the narrative storyline;

receiving, by the authoring tool, text content for a second passage of the narrative storyline;

establishing, by the authoring tool, a link from the first passage to the second passage;

displaying an insert link window in association with the text content for the first passage, the insert link window facilitating the establishing of the link;

assigning, by the authoring tool, reader personality trait characteristics to the link, wherein the reader personality trait characteristics influence updateable personality trait profiles maintained by the database system for readers of the narrative storyline when the readers select the link to obtain the second passage; and

uploading data corresponding to the narrative storyline from the client device to the database system, the data comprising the text content for the first passage, the text content for the second passage, the link, and the reader personality trait characteristics assigned to the link;

wherein the insert link window comprises a traits field to facilitate the assigning of the reader personality trait characteristics, the traits field having a plurality of trait setting tools, each of the trait setting tools corresponding to a different monitored personality trait of readers of the narrative storyline, and each of the trait setting tools comprising an adjustable slider having limits defined by different attributes of the respective personality trait.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link is associated with a user-initiated reply to a communicated storyline message that includes the text content for the first passage.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reader personality trait characteristics are indicative of behavioral or personality traits, attributes, or tendencies of a reader.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the insert link window comprises:

a link text field to indicate text to be displayed for the link; and

a linked passage field to identify a name of the second passage.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the trait setting tool comprises:

an attitude setting tool to designate an attitude trait setting having limits defined by an introvert attribute and an extrovert attribute;

an analysis setting tool to designate an analysis trait setting having limits defined by a logic attribute and an emotion attribute; or

an approach setting tool to designate an approach trait having limits defined by a structured attribute and a spontaneous attribute.

6. A computer-based system comprising a memory element and a processor device communicatively coupled to the memory element, the memory element having computer-executable instructions stored thereon and configurable to be executed by the processor to cause the computer-based system to:

provide a graphical authoring tool on a display device of the computer-based system;

create a narrative storyline for uploading to a database system;

receive text content for a first passage of the narrative storyline, and text content for a second passage of the narrative storyline;

establish a link from the first passage to the second passage;

display an insert link window in association with the text content for the first passage, the insert link window facilitating the establishing of the link;

assign reader personality trait characteristics to the link, wherein the reader personality trait characteristics influence updateable personality trait profiles maintained by the database system for readers of the narrative storyline when the readers select the link to obtain the second passage; and

upload data corresponding to the narrative storyline from the computer-based system to the database system, the data comprising the text content for the first passage, the text content for the second passage, the link, and the reader personality trait characteristics assigned to the link;

wherein the insert link window comprises a traits field to facilitate the assigning of the reader personality trait characteristics, the traits field having a plurality of trait setting tools, each of the trait setting tools corresponding to a different monitored personality trait of readers of the narrative storyline, and each of the trait setting tools comprising an adjustable slider having limits defined by different attributes of the respective personality trait.

7. The computer-based system of claim 6 , wherein the link is associated with a user-initiated reply to a communicated storyline message that includes the text content for the first passage.

8. The computer-based system of claim 6 , wherein the reader personality trait characteristics are indicative of behavioral or personality traits, attributes, or tendencies of a reader.

9. The computer-based system of claim 6 , wherein the insert link window comprises:

a link text field to indicate text to be displayed for the link; and

a linked passage field to identify a name of the second passage.

10. The computer-based system of claim 6 , wherein the trait setting tool comprises:

an attitude setting tool to designate an attitude trait setting having limits defined by an introvert attribute and an extrovert attribute;

an analysis setting tool to designate an analysis trait setting having limits defined by a logic attribute and an emotion attribute; or

an approach setting tool to designate an approach trait having limits defined by a structured attribute and a spontaneous attribute.
