Abstract

A LED light source includes a longitudinally extending light guide, and a power supply. The light guide has a first end face and a longitudinally spaced apart second end face and at least one LED provided at the first end face. The power supply includes a plurality of batteries operatively connected to the at least one LED in a first mode, in which the power supply provides a first power to the at least one LED, and a second mode in which the power supply provides a second power different to the first power to the at least one LED.

Claims (17)

1 . A LED light source comprising:

(a) a longitudinally extending light guide having a first end face and a longitudinally spaced apart second end face and at least one LED provided at the first end face;

(b) a power supply comprising a plurality of batteries operatively connected to the at least one LED in a first mode in which the power supply provides a first power to the at least one LED and a second mode in which the power supply provides a second power different to the first power to the at least one LED.

2 . The LED light source of claim 1 wherein, in the first mode, two or more of the batteries are connected in series.

3 . The LED light source of claim 2 wherein, in the second mode, two or more of the batteries are connected in parallel.

4 . The LED light source of claim 1 wherein the plurality of batteries comprise a first battery and a second battery and, in the first mode, the first and second batteries are connected in series.

5 . The LED light source of claim 4 wherein, in the second mode, the first and second the batteries are connected in parallel.

6 . The LED light source of claim 1 further comprising a circuit which includes a sensor and the power supply whereby, when the sensor senses a condition, the sensor issues a signal which causes the power supply to change from the first mode to the second mode.

7 . The LED light source of claim 6 wherein the sensor comprises a motion sensor.

8 . The LED light source of claim 6 wherein the sensor comprises a noise sensor.

9 . The LED light source of claim 6 wherein the sensor comprises a light intensity sensor.

10 . The LED light source of claim 1 further comprising a manually operable switch operatively connected to the power supply, the switch having a first position in which the power supply is in the first mode and a second position in which the power supply is in the second mode.

11 . A LED light source comprising a circuit including a plurality of LEDs, wherein the LEDs are connected in parallel and each of the plurality of LEDs is individually electrically connected to the circuit by a meltable electrically conductive member.

12 . The LED light source of claim 11 wherein the meltable electrically conductive member comprises fuse wire.

13 . The LED light source of claim 11 wherein the meltable electrically conductive member melts at a temperature corresponding to a temperature produced by a current drawn by a failed LED through the meltable electrically conductive member.

14 . The LED light source of claim 11 wherein the meltable electrically conductive member melts at a temperature above about 80 C.

15 . The LED light source of claim 11 wherein the meltable electrically conductive member comprises fuse wire.
