Abstract

A manhole cover assembly comprises a base frame, the base frame comprising a base body and a base flange extending laterally outward from the base body. The assembly further comprises a top frame, the top frame comprising a top body disposed annularly about at least a portion of the base body, a top flange extending laterally outward from the top body, and a lip extending laterally inward from the top body.

Claims (45)

1. A manhole cover assembly, comprising:

a base frame comprising:

a base body configured to engage a pavement structure; and

a base flange extending laterally outward from the base body; and

a top frame comprising:

a top body disposed annularly about at least a portion of the base body and engaging the base flange;

a top flange extending laterally outward from the top body; and

a lip extending laterally inward from the top body.

2. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a gasket disposed about the base body.

3. The assembly of claim 2 , wherein the gasket is disposed between an inner surface of the top body and an outer surface of the base body; and

wherein the gasket sealingly engages the inner surface of the top body and the outer surface of the base body.

4. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a cover received within the top frame proximate the lip.

5. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the base body and the top body are substantially annular.

6. The assembly of claim 5 , wherein the base body defines an upper end and a lower end, the upper end defining an upper outer diameter, the lower end defining a lower outer diameter greater than the upper outer diameter.

7. The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the base flange extends from the base body proximate the lower end.

8. The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the top frame defines an upper end and a lower end, the upper end defining an upper inner diameter, the lower end defining a lower inner diameter greater than the upper inner diameter.

9. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the upper inner diameter of the top frame is greater than the upper outer diameter of the base frame; and

wherein the lower inner diameter of the top frame is greater than the lower outer diameter of the base frame.

10. A manhole cover assembly, comprising:

a pavement structure;

a base frame comprising:

a base body engaging the pavement structure; and

a base flange extending laterally outward from the base body; and

a top frame disposed in the pavement structure, the top frame comprising:

a top body disposed annularly about at least a portion of the base body and engaging the base flange;

a top flange extending laterally outward from the top body; and

a lip extending laterally inward from the top body.

11. The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the top body directly engages the pavement structure.

12. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a manhole structure configured to support the base frame.

13. The assembly of claim 12 , wherein the base flange defines a plurality of holes, the base flange being coupled to the manhole structure through the plurality of holes.

14. The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the top frame is positioned in an inclined orientation relative to the base frame; and

wherein the top flange defines an incline angle relative to the base flange.

15. The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the incline angle is less than or equal to approximately 7°.

16. The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the top body defines a lower end, the lower end engaging the base flange when the top frame is in the inclined orientation.

17. The assembly of claim 14 , wherein a gasket is disposed between an inner surface of the top body and an outer surface of the base body; and

wherein the top frame sealingly engages a portion of the gasket when the top frame is in the inclined orientation.

18. A method of installing a manhole cover assembly, comprising:

providing a base frame, the base frame comprising a base body and a base flange extending laterally outward from the base body;

coupling the base flange to a manhole structure;

providing a top frame, the top frame comprising a top body and a top flange extending laterally outward from the top body;

positioning the top body annularly about the base body;

engaging the base flange with a lower end of the top body; and

pouring a pavement structure about the top frame and the base body.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising positioning the top frame in an inclined orientation relative to the base frame.

20. The method of claim 18 , further comprising compressing a gasket between an inner surface of the top body and an outer surface of the base body.
