Abstract

In an example, an apparatus comprises logic, at least partially comprising hardware logic, to receive an input from one or more detectors proximate a display to present an output from a graphics pipeline, determine that a user is not interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the user is not interacting with the display, to reduce a frame rendering rate of the graphics pipeline. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.

Claims (63)

1. A general purpose graphic processor comprising:

a plurality of execution units comprising at least a first type of execution unit having a first set of execution resources capable to render a graphics workload at a first frame rate and a second type of execution unit having a second set of execution resources capable to render a graphics workload at a second rate, lower than the first frame rate; and

a processing circuitry to:

process a graphics workload using the first type of execution unit at the first frame rate;

receive, from a proximity sensor, an indication that an object approaching an electronic device coupled to the processor is within a predetermined distance, wherein the predetermined distance is adjusted dynamically in response to an operating condition of the electronic device, and in response to the indication, to activate a camera proximate a display on the electronic device;

receive an input from the camera; and

determine, from the input from the camera, that a user is not interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the user is not interacting with the display, to:

terminate the graphics workload on the first type of execution unit; and

process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit to reduce a frame rendering rate of a graphics pipeline communicatively coupled to the display.

2. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 1 , the processor to:

receive, from a proximity sensor, an indication that an object approaching an electronic device coupled to the processor is not within a predetermined distance, and in response to the indication, to process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit.

3. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 1 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a human, and in response to a determination that the image input is not a human, to process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit.

4. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 3 , the processor to:

convert image data from the camera to a histogram; and

compare the histogram to preconfigured histogram data in a local memory.

5. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 4 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a face interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the image is not a face interacting with the display, to:

process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit.

6. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 4 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a face interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the image is a face interacting with the display, to:

process the graphics workload using the first type of execution unit at the first frame rate to maintain a full frame rendering rate of the graphics pipeline.

7. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 4 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a face of an authorized user, and in response to a determination that the image is not a face of an authorized user, to:

terminate frame rendering of the graphics pipeline.

8. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 1 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a human, and in response to a determination that the image is a human, to:

activate at least one face-recognition module.

9. The general purpose graphic processor of claim 8 , the processor to:

convert image data from the camera to a histogram; and

compare the histogram to preconfigured histogram data in a local memory.

10. An electronic device, comprising:

a plurality of execution units comprising at least a first type of execution unit having a first set of execution resources capable to render a graphics workload at a first frame rate and a second type of execution unit having a second set of execution resources capable to render a graphics workload at a second rate, lower than the first frame rate; and

a processing circuitry to:

process a graphics workload using the first type of execution unit at the first frame rate;

receive, from a proximity sensor, an indication that an object approaching an electronic device coupled to the processor is within a predetermined distance, wherein the predetermined distance is adjusted dynamically in response to an operating condition of the electronic device, and in response to the indication, to activate a camera proximate a display on the electronic device;

receive an input from the camera; and

determine, from the input from the camera, that a user is not interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the user is not interacting with the display, to:

terminate the graphics workload on the first type of execution unit; and

process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit to reduce a frame rendering rate of a graphics pipeline communicatively coupled to the display; and

a memory communicatively coupled to the processor.

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , the processor to:

receive, from a proximity sensor, an indication that an object approaching an electronic device coupled to the processor is not within a predetermined distance, and in response to the indication, to process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit.

12. The electronic device of claim 10 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a human, and in response to a determination that the image input is not a human, to process the graphics workload on the second type of execution unit.

13. The electronic device of claim 12 , the processor to:

convert image data from the camera to a histogram; and

compare the histogram to preconfigured histogram data in a local memory.

14. The electronic device of claim 13 , the processor to:

determine whether an image input to the camera is a face interacting with the display, and in response to a determination that the image is not a face interacting with the display, to:
