Abstract

The glass panel unit includes a first glass panel, a second glass panel, a seal, an evacuated space, and at least one spacer. The second glass panel is placed opposite the first glass panel. The seal with a frame shape hermetically bonds the first glass panel and the second glass panel to each other. The evacuated space is enclosed by the first glass panel, the second glass panel, and the seal. The at least one spacer is placed between the first glass panel and the second glass panel. The at least one spacer has a height H 1 smaller than a height H 2 of the seal between the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

Claims (15)

1. A glass panel unit comprising:

a first glass panel;

a second glass panel placed opposite the first glass panel;

a seal with a frame shape hermetically bonding the first glass panel and the second glass panel to each other;

an evacuated space enclosed by the first glass panel, the second glass panel, and the seal; and

at least one spacer placed between the first glass panel and the second glass panel,

the at least one spacer having a height smaller than a height of the seal between the first glass panel and the second glass panel wherein the at least one spacer contacts the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

2. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein outlines of the first glass panel and the second glass panel are aligned with each other in a plan view.

3. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein the seal includes material for keeping a distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

4. The glass panel unit of claim 2 , wherein the seal includes material for keeping a distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

5. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein one or both of the first glass panel and the second glass panel is warped inwardly so as to reduce the distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

6. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein the at least one spacer has a height which determines a first distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel in a center part of the glass panel unit, and

the seal has a height which determines a second distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel at a periphery of the glass panel unit.

7. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein the seal comprises particles to maintain a distance between the first glass panel and the second glass panel.

8. The glass panel unit of claim 7 , wherein the at least one spacer has a height which is smaller than particle sizes of the particles.
