Low-temperature radical polymerisation of alkoxyamines
View Patent ↗The present invention relates to a process for the radical polymerization of alkoxyamines at low temperature, typically at temperatures as low as −50° C., in the presence of a nitroxide reducing agent.
1. A radical polymerization process comprising the steps of:
providing a mixture comprising at least one monomer, benzoyl peroxide, dimethyl-para-toluidine, and at least one alkoxyamine, wherein at least one radical is obtained from decomposition of the benzoyl peroxide in the presence of the dimethyl-para-toluidine;
polymerizing the mixture at a temperature of between −50° C. and 80° C.
2. The radical polymerization process according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is monofunctional.
3. The radical polymerization process according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is multifunctional.
4. The radical polymerization process according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is a macromolecular alkoxyamine.
5. The radical polymerization process according to claim 1 , wherein the polymerization is performed in the presence of a host material that does not participate in the polymerization process.
6. The radical polymerization process according to claim 5 , wherein the host material comprises at least one material selected from the group consisting of woven fibers, nonwoven fibers, polyester resins, polyurethane resins and epoxy resins.
7. The radical polymerization process according to claim 1 wherein the radical polymerization process is used to manufacture bonding agents, composite parts, varnishes, coatings or 3D printed articles.
8. An article of manufacture, wherein the article is manufactured according to the radical polymerization process of claim 1 .
9. An article of manufacture, wherein the article is manufactured according to the radical polymerization process of claim 5 .
10. An article of manufacture, wherein the article is manufactured according to the radical polymerization process of claim 6 .
11. The radical polymerization process according to claim 5 , wherein the radical polymerization process is used to manufacture bonding agents, composite parts, varnishes, coatings, or 3D printed articles.
12. The radical polymerization process according to claim 6 , wherein the radical polymerization process is used to manufacture bonding agents, composite parts, varnishes, coatings, or 3D printed articles.
13. A radical polymerization process comprising the steps of:
providing a mixture comprising at least one monomer, at least one nitroxide reducing agent, and at least one alkoxyamine;
polymerizing the mixture at a temperature of between −50° C. and 80° C.;
wherein the polymerization is performed in the presence of a host material that does not participate in the polymerization process, wherein the host material comprises at least one material selected from the group consisting of woven fibers, nonwoven fibers, polyester resins, polyurethane resins and epoxy resins.
14. The radical polymerization process according to claim 13 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is monofunctional.
15. The radical polymerization process according to claim 13 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is multifunctional.
16. The radical polymerization process according to claim 13 , wherein the at least one alkoxyamine is a macromolecular alkoxyamine.
17. The radical polymerization process according to claim 13 , wherein the at least one nitroxide reducing agent is at least one radical.
18. The radical polymerization process according to claim 17 , wherein the at least one radical is obtained from the decomposition of at least one radical initiator.
19. The radical polymerization process according to claim 18 , wherein the at least one radical is obtained from the decomposition of benzoyl peroxide in the presence of dimethyl-para-toluidine.
20. The radical polymerization process according to claim 13 wherein the radical polymerization process is used to manufacture bonding agents, composite parts, varnishes, coatings or 3D printed articles.
21. An article of manufacture, wherein the article is manufactured according to the radical polymerization process of claim 13 .
