Abstract

The invention relates to methods and means of typing a sample from a breast cancer patient, preferably an invasive lobular breast cancer patient. The invention further relates to methods of assigning treatment to a patient suffering from invasive lobular breast cancer, and to methods of treating a patient suffering from invasive lobular breast cancer.

Claims (31)

1 . A method of typing a sample from a breast cancer patient, the method comprising:

providing a sample comprising RNA expression products from breast cancer cells from the patient;

determining a level of RNA expression for at least two genes that are selected from Table 1 in said sample;

comparing said determined level of RNA expression of the at least two genes to the level of expression of the genes in a reference sample; and

typing said sample based on the comparison of the determined levels of RNA expression.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , whereby said breast cancer is an invasive lobular breast cancer.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising determining a level of expression of PDL1, PD1, and/or CTLA4.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , whereby said at least two genes selected from Table 1 comprise GIMAP6 and P2RY14.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , whereby a level of RNA expression of at least five genes from Table 1 is determined.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , whereby a level of RNA expression of at least GIMAP6, P2RY14, CD79B, GIMAP5, GIMAP8, LOC100290115, IL33, SEL1L3, and SLC9A9 is determined.

7 . The method according to claim 1 , whereby a level of RNA expression of all genes from Table 1 is determined.

8 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising determining a metastasizing potential of the sample from the patient.

9 . A method of assigning treatment to a patient suffering from breast cancer, comprising

(a) typing a sample comprising RNA expression products from breast cancer cells from the patient according to the method of claim 1 ;

(b) classifying said sample as Immune Related (IR) or Hormone Response (HR);

(c) assigning anti-Estrogen Receptor directed therapy to a patient of which the sample is classified as HR.

10 . A method of assigning treatment to a patient suffering from breast cancer, comprising

(a) typing a sample comprising RNA expression products from breast cancer cells from the patient according to the method of claim 1 ;

(b) classifying said sample as Immune Related (IR) or Hormone Response (HR);

(c) assigning therapy targeting PD1, PDL1 and/or CTLA4 and/or assigning therapy comprising at least one DNA damaging agent to a patient of which the sample is classified as IR.

11 . The method according to claim 10 , whereby the therapy comprises antibodies to PD1, PDL1 and/or CTLA4.

12 . The method according to claim 10 , whereby the DNA damaging agent comprises bleomycin, cisplatin and/or a topoisomerase 1 inhibitor.

13 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the DNA damaging agent comprises topoisomerase 1 inhibitor SN-38.

14 . A method of treating a patient suffering from breast cancer, comprising

(a) typing a sample comprising RNA expression products from breast cancer cells from the patient according to the method of claim 1 ;

(b) classifying said sample as Immune Related (IR) or Hormone Response (HR);

(c) treating a patient of which the sample is classified as HR with anti-Estrogen Receptor directed therapy.

15 . A method of treating a patient suffering from breast cancer, comprising

(a) typing a sample comprising RNA expression products from breast cancer cells from the patient according to the method of claim 1 ;

(b) classifying said sample as Immune Related (IR) or Hormone Response (HR);

(c) treating a patient of which the sample is classified as IR with therapy targeting PD1, PDL1 and/or CTLA4 and/or with therapy comprising at least one DNA damaging agent.
