Abstract

An information manager may include processing circuitry configured to receive dynamic aircraft information associated with operation of an in-flight aircraft, receive a message from a communication device on the in-flight aircraft for transmission to a ground based content server via a wireless communication network capable of communicating with in-flight assets, and generate an aviation cookie for communication to the content server along with the message. The aviation cookie may be generated based on the dynamic aircraft information and may enable the content server to generate content based at least in part on the dynamic aircraft information.

Claims (27)

1. An information manager comprising processing circuitry configured to:

intercept a message from a communication device on an in-flight aircraft being transmitted for processing at a ground based content server via a wireless communication network capable of communicating with in-flight assets; and

modify, based on dynamic aircraft information received in association with the in-flight aircraft, the message to include an aviation cookie, the aviation cooking being employed to generate a response to the message including at least some content that is generated based on the dynamic aircraft information,

wherein the aviation cookie includes a first portion indicative of identity information, and a second portion indicative of current position information of the in-flight aircraft.

2. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic aircraft information comprises speed and heading of the aircraft.

3. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic aircraft information comprises engine health monitoring data.

4. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic aircraft information comprises real-time weather or environmental data.

5. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is generated responsive to an event occurrence on the aircraft, and the aviation cookie includes information indicative of the event.

6. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the identity information comprises an identity of a user of the communication device.

7. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is generated based on a temporal constraint.

8. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is associated with the message from an individual, but facilitates the provision of content or services related to the aircraft and unrelated to the individual.

9. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is associated with the message from an individual, and facilitates the provision of content or services related to the individual.

10. The information manager of claim 9 , wherein the aviation cookie further enables the provision of content or services based on a current or future location of the individual at a future time based on the dynamic aircraft information.

11. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is associated with a search request from the communication device, and wherein a response from the content server is generated based on a current location of the communication device, an arrival location for the aircraft, or a point of origin of the aircraft.

12. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie is indicative of flight progress or status, and a response from the content server is generated based on the flight progress or status.

13. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the information manager is configured to generate the aviation cookie on the aircraft.

14. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the information manager is configured to generate the aviation cookie responsive to transmission of the message from the aircraft.

15. The information manager of claim 1 , wherein the aviation cookie comprises a third portion indicative of a function associated with the aviation cookie.

16. The information manager of claim 15 , wherein the third portion includes an indication of a cause for generation of the aviation cookie.

17. A method comprising:

receiving dynamic aircraft information associated with operation of an in-flight aircraft, the dynamic aircraft information comprising current position information of the in-flight aircraft;

receiving a message from a communication device on the in-flight aircraft for transmission to a ground based content server via a wireless communication network capable of communicating with in-flight assets;

intercepting an HTTP or web cookie associated with the message; and

modifying the HTTP or web cookie to generate an aviation cookie for communication to the content server along with the message, the aviation cookie being generated by modification of the HTTP or web cookie to include information indicative of the current position information of the in-flight aircraft such that the aviation cookie enables the content server to generate content based at least in part on the current position information of the in-flight aircraft.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising providing content or services based on a current or future location of the individual at a future time based on the dynamic aircraft information.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the aviation cookie is associated with the message from an individual, but facilitates the provision of content or services related to the aircraft and unrelated to the individual.

20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the aviation cookie is associated with the message from an individual, and facilitates the provision of content or services related to the individual.
