Abstract

A system for indoor localization using satellite navigation signals in a Distributed Antenna System includes a plurality of Off-Air Access Units (OAAUs). Each of the plurality of OAAUs is operable to receive an individual satellite navigation signal from at least one of a plurality of satellites and operable to route signals optically to one or more DAUs. The system also includes a plurality of remote DRUs located at a Remote location. The plurality of remote DRUs are operable to receive signals from a plurality of the one or more DAUs. The system further includes an algorithm to delay each individual satellite navigation signal for providing indoor localization at each of the plurality of DRUs.

transmitting the digital satellite navigation signal through an optical cable to a digital remote unit (DRU);

delaying, at the DRU, the digital satellite navigation signal;

converting, at the DRU, the digital satellite navigation signal to a delayed RF satellite navigation signal; and

transmitting, at the DRU, the delayed RF satellite navigation signal for providing indoor localization within range of the DRU.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the RF satellite navigation signal comprises at least one of a GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, or BeiDou signal.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the DRU is coupled to one or more of a plurality if DRUs via at least one of a Ethernet cable, Optical Fiber, or Wireless Link.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the OAAU is coupled to one or more of a plurality of OAAUs via at least one of Ethernet cable, Optical Fiber, or Wireless Link.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein delaying the digital satellite navigation signal corresponds to a positional offset associated with a distance from the OAAU to the DRU.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing a server operable to transmit configuration information to at least one of the DRU or the OAAU.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a plurality of RF satellite navigation signals at the OAAU; and

converting the plurality of RF satellite navigation signals to a plurality of digital satellite navigation signals.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

multiplexing, at the OAAU, the plurality of digital satellite navigation signals;

transmitting the multiplexed plurality of digital satellite navigation signals; through the optical cable to the digital remote unit (DRU);

demultiplexing the multiplexed plurality of digital satellite navigation signals;

delaying, at the DRU, each individual digital satellite navigation signal of the plurality of digital satellite navigation signals;

converting, at the DRU, the plurality of digital satellite navigation signals to a plurality of delayed RF satellite navigation signals; and

transmitting, at the DRU, the plurality of delayed RF satellite navigation signals for providing indoor localization within range of the DRU.

9. A method for indoor localization using satellite navigation signals, the method comprising:

receiving, at an Off-Air Access Unit (OAAU), a Radio Frequency (RF) satellite navigation signal;

converting, by the OAAU, the RF satellite navigation signal to a first digital satellite navigation signal;

transmitting the first digital satellite navigation signal to a multiplexer through an optical cable coupled to the OAAU and a digital access unit (DAU);

receiving a second digital satellite navigation signal at the multiplexer;

multiplexing, at the DAU, the first digital satellite navigation signal and the second digital satellite navigation signal to provide a multiplexed signal;

transmitting the multiplexed signal to a demultiplexer through a second optical cable coupled to the DAU and a digital remote unit (DRU);

demultiplexing, at the DRU, the multiplexed signal to separate the first digital satellite navigation signal and the second digital satellite navigation signal;

delaying, at the DRU, the first digital satellite navigation signal according to a first positional offset and the second digital satellite navigation signal according to a second positional offset;

converting, at the DRU, the first digital satellite navigation signal to a first delayed RF satellite navigation signal and the second digital satellite navigation signal to a second delayed RF satellite navigation signal; and

transmitting, at the DRU, the first delayed RF Satellite navigation signal and the second delayed RF satellite navigation signal for providing indoor localization within range of the DRU.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the RF satellite navigation signal comprises at least one of a GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, or BeiDou signal.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the DRU is coupled to one or more of a plurality if DRUs via at least one of a Ethernet cable, Optical Fiber, or Wireless Link.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the OAAU is coupled to one or more of a plurality of OAAUs via at least one of Ethernet cable, Optical Fiber, or Wireless Link.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein the first positional offset and the second positional offset correspond to a distance from the OAAU to the DRU.
