Abstract

A receiver includes a plurality of input paths for receiving and processing a plurality of input RF signals. The input paths isolate one or more portions of corresponding ones of the received input RF signals, and combine the isolated portions of the corresponding ones of the received input RF signals onto one or more output signals. A bandwidth of the isolated portions of the corresponding ones of the received input RF signals and a bandwidth of the output signals are variable. The isolated portions of the corresponding ones of the received plurality of input RF signals are extracted and utilized to generate the output signals. The portions of the corresponding ones of the received plurality of input RF signals may be mapped into one or more channel slots in the time domain. The channel slots may be assigned in the frequency domain to one or more frequency bins.

Claims (28)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A system comprising:

a channelizer operable to select a plurality of channels of one or more received signals;

a crossbar operable to map the plurality of channels to a plurality of time slots; and

a digital processor operable to perform a fast Fourier transform (FFT) on two or more portions of the plurality of time slots to produce two or more frequency-domain signals, the two or more frequency-domain signals being overlapped in frequency to generate a stacked signal for output onto a communication link.

22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the number of channels in the plurality of channels is different than the number of slots in the plurality of slots.

23 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the crossbar is operable to perform the mapping of the plurality of channels to the plurality of slots based on a bandwidth of one or more of the channels in the plurality of channels.

24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the crossbar is operable to perform the mapping of the plurality of channels to the plurality of slots based on a bandwidth of the stacked signal.

25 . The system of claim 21 , wherein an amount of frequency overlap of the two or more frequency-domain signals is based on a bandwidth of one or more of the channels in the plurality of channels.

26 . The system of claim 21 , wherein an amount of frequency overlap of the two or more frequency-domain signals is based on a bandwidth of the stacked signal.

27 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the system comprises an analog-to-digital converter operable to convert the stacked signal to an analog signal.

28 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises satellite television channels.

29 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises terrestrial television channels.

30 . The system of claim 21 , wherein a gateway device comprises the channelizer, the crossbar, and the digital processor.

31 . A method comprising:

selecting, by a channelizer, a plurality of channels of one or more received signals;

mapping, by a crossbar, the plurality of channels to a plurality of time slots;

performing, by a digital processor, a fast Fourier transform (FFT) on two or more portions of the plurality of time slots to produce two or more frequency-domain signals; and

generating a stacked signal comprising the two or more frequency-domain signals.

32 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the number of channels in the plurality of channels is different than the number of slots in the plurality of slots.

33 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the mapping of the plurality of channels to the plurality of slots is based on a bandwidth of one or more of the channels in the plurality of channels.

34 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the mapping of the plurality of channels to the plurality of slots based on a bandwidth of the stacked signal.

35 . The method of claim 31 , wherein an amount of frequency overlap of the two or more frequency-domain signals is based on a bandwidth of one or more of the channels in the plurality of channels.

36 . The method of claim 31 , wherein an amount of frequency overlap of the two or more frequency-domain signals is based on a bandwidth of the stacked signal.

37 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the method comprises converting the stacked signal to an analog signal by an analog-to-digital converter.

38 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises satellite television channels.

39 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises terrestrial television channels.

40 . The method of claim 31 , wherein a gateway device comprises the channelizer, the crossbar, and the digital processor.
