Claims (46)

1. A gaming system comprising:

a display device;

a processor; and

a memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

cause the display device to display an established amount of a credit balance,

prior to a play of a dame and responsive to a mobile device having displayed a balance of wagering funds within a period of time prior to an establishment of the credit balance, cause the display device to display a benefit, and

for the play of the game following a placement of a wager amount which causes a reduction of the credit balance:

randomly determine a game outcome,

cause the display device to display the randomly determined game outcome,

determine any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, and

cause the display device to display any determined game award, said credit balance being increasable based on any determined game award.

2. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device communicates with the processor via a wireless communication network.

3. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the benefit comprises an amount added to the credit balance.

4. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the benefit comprises a modification of a paytable employed to determine any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome.

5. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to, responsive to a physical item being received via an acceptor, establish at least part of the amount of the credit balance.

6. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the established amount of the credit balance, the placed wager amount and any determined game award is selected from the group consisting of: a quantity of monetary credits, a quantity of non-monetary credits, a quantity of promotional credits, and a quantity of player tracking points.

7. A gaming system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

cause a display, by a display device, of an established amount of a credit balance,

prior to a play of a game and responsive to a mobile device having displayed a balance of wagering funds within a period of time prior to an establishment of the credit balance, cause a display, by the display device, of a benefit, and

for the play of the game following a placement of a wager amount which causes a reduction of the credit balance:

randomly determine a game outcome,

cause a display, by the display device, of the randomly determined game outcome,

determine any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, and

cause a display, by the display device, of any determined game award, said credit balance being increasable based on any determined game award.

8. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein the mobile device communicates with the processor via a wireless communication network.

9. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein the benefit comprises an amount added to the credit balance.

10. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein the benefit comprises a modification of a paytable employed to determine any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome.

11. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to establish at least part of the amount of the credit balance based on a physical item being received via an acceptor.

12. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the established amount of the credit balance, the placed wager amount and any determined game award is selected from the group consisting of: a quantity of monetary credits, a quantity of non-monetary credits, a quantity of promotional credits, and a quantity of player tracking points.

13. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:

causing a display, by a display device, of an established amount of a credit balance,

prior to a play of a game and responsive to a mobile device having displayed a balance of wagering funds within a period of time prior to an establishment of the credit balance, causing a display, by the display device, of a benefit, and

for the play of the game following a placement of a wager amount which causes a reduction of the credit balance:

randomly determining, by a processor, a game outcome,

causing a display, by the display device, of the randomly determined game outcome,

determining, by the processor, any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, and

causing a display, by the display device, of any determined game award, said credit balance being increasable based on any determined game award.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the mobile device communicating with the processor via a wireless communication network.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the benefit comprises an amount added to the credit balance.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the benefit comprises a modification of a paytable employed to determine any game award associated with the randomly determined game outcome.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising establishing at least part of the amount of the credit balance based on a physical item being received via an acceptor.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein at least one of the established amount of the credit balance, the placed wager amount and any determined game award is selected from the group consisting of: a quantity of monetary credits, a quantity of non-monetary credits, a quantity of promotional credits, and a quantity of player tracking points.

19. The method of claim 13 , which is operated through a data network.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the data network is an internet.
