Abstract

A method of capturing biometric data is provided that includes activating a security application in a device. The security application is activated by an operator of the device and is configured to cause the device to display an outline image. Moreover, the method includes displaying the outline image in a stationary position on a display of the device, positioning desired biometric data proximate the device such that the desired biometric data appears as a biometric image on the device display, and monitoring the outline and biometric images shown on the device display. Furthermore, the method includes positioning the device and the desired biometric data to better align the outline and biometric images when the outline and biometric images do not align and capturing the desired biometric data from an individual after approximately aligning the outline image with the biometric image.

capture at least one digital image of the individual in accordance with the message while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is inside the displayed visual aid.

5. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 3 , wherein the instructions when read and executed by said processor, further cause said computing device to capture the at least one digital image while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

6. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 4 , wherein the displayed visual aid is circular.

7. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:

displaying, by a computing device, a visual aid and a biometric modality of the individual, the displayed biometric modality of the individual being a different size than the displayed visual aid; and

capturing, by the computing device, at least one digital image of the individual while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is inside the displayed visual aid, wherein biometric feature data from the at least one digital image is to be used during an authentication transaction to authenticate the identity of the individual.

8. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 7 said capturing step further comprising capturing the at least one digital image while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

9. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 7 wherein the displayed visual aid is circular.

10. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:

a processor; and

a memory configured to store data, said computing device being associated with a network and said memory being in communication with said processor and having instructions stored thereon, which when read and executed by said processor, cause said computing device to:

display a visual aid and a biometric modality of the individual, the displayed biometric modality of the individual being a different size than the displayed visual aid; and

capture at least one digital image of the individual while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is inside the displayed visual aid, wherein biometric feature data from the at least one digital image is to be used during an authentication transaction to authenticate the identity of the individual.

11. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 10 , wherein the instructions when read and executed by said processor, further cause said computing device to capture the at least one digital image while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

12. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 10 , wherein the displayed visual aid is circular.

13. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:

displaying, by a computing device, a visual aid and a biometric modality of the individual;

determining, by the computing device, whether the displayed biometric modality is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid; and

capturing, by the computing device, at least one digital image of the individual while the displayed biometric modality is approximately aligned with the displayed visual aid and is within the tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

14. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:

a processor; and

a memory configured to store data, said computing device being associated with a network and said memory being in communication with said processor and having instructions stored thereon, which when read and executed by said processor cause said computing device to:

display a visual aid and a biometric modality of the individual;

determine whether the displayed biometric modality is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid; and

capture at least one digital image of the individual while the displayed biometric modality is approximately aligned with the displayed visual aid and is within the tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

15. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:

displaying, by a computing device, a message facilitating capture of at least one digital image of a desired biometric modality, a visual aid, and the desired biometric modality of the individual, the displayed biometric modality of the individual being a different size than the displayed visual aid; and

capturing, by the computing device, at least one digital image of the individual in accordance with the message while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is inside the displayed visual aid, wherein biometric feature data from the at least one digital image is to be used during an authentication transaction to authenticate the identity of the individual.

16. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 15 said capturing step further comprising capturing the at least one digital image while the displayed biometric modality of the individual is within a tolerance of the displayed visual aid.

17. A method for capturing biometric data of an individual in accordance with claim 15 wherein the displayed visual aid is circular.

18. A computing device for capturing biometric data of an individual comprising:
