Abstract

A Pilates machine tension device support system for efficiently providing a tension force to a movable platform of an exercise machine. The Pilates machine tension device support system generally includes a frame, a platform movably positioned upon the frame and a tension assembly connected between the frame and the platform to provide selective tension upon the platform in a first direction. The tension assembly is comprised of a plurality of pulleys and a plurality of tension devices positioned upon the pulleys, wherein the tension devices are attached between a frame and the platform. The tension members are selectively engaged to the platform to increase or decrease the tension applied to the platform for varying levels of workouts.

Claims (83)

1. An exercise machine, comprising:

a frame having a first end and a second end;

a first end platform attached to the frame near the first end;

a second end platform attached to the frame near the second end;

a platform movably positioned upon the frame,

wherein the platform is adapted to be movable in a reciprocating manner along at least a portion of an axis extending between the first end and the second end;

a selection device attached to the platform,

wherein the selection device includes a first slot and a second slot;

a first tension device connected to the frame,

wherein the first tension device includes a first knob,

wherein the first knob has a width greater than the first slot,

wherein the first knob is adapted for selectively connecting to the selection device and is received by the first slot; and

a second tension device connected to the frame,

wherein the second tension device includes a second knob,

wherein the second knob has a width greater than the second slot,

wherein the second knob is adapted for selectively connecting to the selection device and is received by the second slot.

2. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of each tension device is comprised of a tension spring.

3. The exercise machine of claim 2 , wherein each tension spring is comprised of a tension coil spring.

4. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of each tension device is comprised of an elastic band.

5. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein the tension devices are parallel with respect to one another.

6. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein the slots are vertically oriented.

7. The exercise machine of claim 6 , wherein the slots are parallel to one another.

8. The exercise machine of claim 6 ,

wherein the slots extend upwardly from a lower edge of the selection device.

9. The exercise machine of claim 6 ,

wherein the selection device includes a third slot and all of the slots are equidistantly spaced apart.

10. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein the selection device includes an angled portion that extends away from the tension devices.

11. The exercise machine of claim 10 ,

wherein the angled portion extends downwardly with respect to the carriage.

12. The exercise machine of claim 1 , wherein the selection device includes a vertical portion that extends downwardly from the platform and an angled portion extending from the vertical portion.

13. The exercise machine of claim 12 , wherein the angled portion extends away from the tension devices.

14. The exercise machine of claim 13 , wherein the slots pass through the angled portion and into the vertical portion.

15. The exercise machine of claim 1 , including a reserve device connected to the frame, wherein the reserve device includes a first reserve slot and a second reserve slot, wherein the first reserve slot is adapted to receive the first tension device and wherein the second reserve slot is adapted to receive the second tension device.

16. An exercise machine, comprising:

a frame having a first end and a second end;

a first end platform attached to the frame near the first end;

a second end platform attached to the frame near the second end;

a platform movably positioned upon the frame,

wherein the platform is adapted to be movable in a reciprocating manner along at least a portion of an axis extending between the first end and the second end;

a selection device attached to the platform,

wherein the selection device includes a first slot and a second slot, and

wherein the slots are vertically oriented and parallel to one another;

wherein the selection device includes a vertical portion that extends downwardly from the platform and an angled portion extending from the vertical portion,

wherein the angled portion extends away from the tension devices, and

wherein the slots extend upwardly from a lower edge of the angled portion and into the vertical portion;

a first tension device connected to the frame,

wherein the first tension device includes a first knob,

wherein the first knob has a width greater than the first slot,

wherein the first knob is adapted for selectively connecting to the selection device and is received by the first slot; and

a second tension device connected to the frame,

wherein the second tension device includes a second knob,

wherein the second knob has a width greater than the second slot,

wherein the second knob is adapted for selectively connecting to the selection device and is received by the second slot.

17. The exercise machine of claim 16 , wherein at least a portion of each tension device is comprised of a tension spring.

18. The exercise machine of claim 17 , wherein each tension spring is comprised of a tension coil spring.

19. The exercise machine of claim 16 ,

wherein the selection device includes a third slot and all of the slots are equidistantly spaced apart.

20. An exercise machine, comprising:

a frame having a first end and a second end;

a first end platform attached to the frame near the first end;

a second end platform attached to the frame near the second end;

a platform movably positioned upon the frame,

wherein the platform is adapted to be movable in a reciprocating manner along at least a portion of an axis extending between the first end and the second end,

wherein the platform includes a first edge and a second edge;

a selection device attached to the platform near the second edge of the platform,

wherein the selection device extends downwardly from the platform,

wherein the selection device includes a first slot and a second slot, and
