Abstract

A machine-implemented method including obtaining physiological signal data for a living being and performing a first analysis of the physiological signal data at a processing device local to the living being and remote from a central processing device. The method further includes transmitting from the processing device data associated with the analysis to the central processing device and performing at the central processing device a second analysis of the data associated with the first analysis. The method further includes displaying the data associated with the second analysis. The method can also include interaction between the processing device local to the living being and the central processing device. The method can also include distributing monitoring and analysis between an ambulatory and a centralized subsystem.

Claims (19)

1. A method for monitoring a patient, the method comprising:

receiving, at an ambulatory subsystem, cardiac signal data about a patient from at least one sensor coupled to the patient;

storing the received cardiac signal data in a memory;

transmitting, from the ambulatory subsystem to a central processing device subsystem that is remote from the ambulatory subsystem, a subset of the received cardiac signal data, the subset of the received cardiac signal data being less than all the received cardiac signal data;

receiving, at the ambulatory subsystem from the central processing device subsystem, a signal generated based on the central processing device subsystem analyzing the subset of the received cardiac signal data according to a first technique and thereby identifying a health-related anomaly; and

transmitting, in response to receiving the signal, a portion of the received cardiac signal data from the ambulatory subsystem to the central processing device subsystem for analysis by the central processing device subsystem according to a second technique that validates the health-related anomaly identified by the first technique, the portion of the received cardiac signal data including more data than the subset of the received cardiac signal data.

2. The method of claim 1 , the health-related anomaly being an arrhythmia event.

3. The method of claim 2 , the arrhythmia event being an atrial fibrillation (AF) event.

4. The method of claim 1 , the signal from the central processing device subsystem being a request for the portion of the received cardiac signal data.

5. The method of claim 1 , the cardiac signal data comprising ECG data.

6. The method of claim 5 , the subset of the received cardiac signal data comprising fiducial points of a QRS complex.

7. The method of claim 1 , transmitting, to the central processing device subsystem, the subset of the received cardiac signal data comprising transmitting, via a wireless transceiver, the subset of the received cardiac signal data over a cellular network.

8. The method of claim 1 , the memory storing the cardiac signal data in a circular buffer.

9. The method of claim 1 , the cardiac signal data received wirelessly from the at least one sensor.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing, at the ambulatory subsystem, real-time monitoring of the received cardiac signal data to generate the subset of the received cardiac signal data for transmission to the central processing system.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing, at the central processing subsystem, analysis of the subset of the received cardiac signal data according to the first technique to identify the health-related anomaly; and

performing, at the central processing subsystem, analysis of the portion of the received cardiac signal according to the second technique to validate the identified health-related anomaly.
