Abstract

Systems and methods described herein provide a system for transmitting data on an MIMO channel using a STBC. The system comprises a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter obtains plurality of data symbols to transmit, and performs data padding for the plurality of data symbols based on a non-STBC manner. The wireless transmitter further calculates a number of bits per data symbol after the data padding and pre-codes a data symbol from the plurality of data symbols based on available channel information when the number of data symbols is an odd number. The wireless transmitter generates an STBC based on the pre-coded data symbols, and transmits the generated STBC to the MIMO channel.

obtaining, at a wireless transmitter, a data stream including a plurality of data symbols to transmit;

determining whether a data symbol from the data stream is a last symbol in the data stream;

in response to determining that the data symbol is not the last symbol in the data stream, generating a STBC using the data symbol and a next data symbol from the data stream and transmitting the STBC to the MIMO channel; and

in response to determining that the data symbol is the last symbol in the data stream and that the data stream has an odd number of data symbols, pre-coding only the last data symbol based on a pre-determined pre-coding matrix and transmitting the pre-coded data symbol to the MIMO channel.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

calculating a number of data symbols from the plurality of data symbols by dividing a total number of data bits based on a number of data bits per every orthogonal frequency-divisional multiplexing (OFDM) symbol.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

determining whether the calculated number of data symbols from the plurality of data symbols is an even number or an odd number;

in response to determining that the calculated number of data symbols from the plurality of data symbols is an odd number:

using a maximum even number of data symbols from the odd number of data symbols to generate a plurality of STBCs in a form of a two-by-two matrix, and

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

calculating a number of data padding bits based on the calculated number of data symbols; and

performing data padding for the plurality of data symbols.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

selecting an average padding length for the data padding as half-symbol when the calculated number of data symbols from the plurality of data symbols is an even number; and

selecting an average padding length for the data padding as one and a half symbols when the calculated number of data symbols from the plurality of data symbols is an odd number.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

constructing the pre-coding matrix depending on availability of channel information.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

constructing the pre-coding matrix to indicate that the last data symbol is transmitted using one antenna at the wireless transmitter; and
