Abstract

The present disclosure relates generally to systems, devices and methods for disinfection of space and equipment. In particular, the present disclosure relates to systems, devices and methods, such as rolling enclosures, which use light sources, such as ultraviolet (UV) light, and more specifically UV-C light, to disinfect larger scale equipment or spaces. Systems and methods of the present disclosure are particularly useful in medical facilities for treating medical equipment or spaces, where the prevalence of pathogens requires frequent disinfecting.

Claims (39)

1. A disinfection system, comprising:

a plurality of walls defining a chamber, the plurality of walls including a bottom wall and a plurality of side walls;

a plurality of reflective units including at least one reflective unit disposed on an inner surface of each side wall from the plurality of side walls;

a plurality of energy sources including at least one energy source housed within each reflective unit from the plurality of reflective units; and

a plurality of rolling elements disposed near the bottom wall and collectively configured to enable the disinfection system to be moved from a first location to a second location, the bottom wall including an outer surface disposed outside of the chamber and facing a support surface, each rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements selectively positionable between a first position and a second position relative to the bottom wall, the plurality of rolling elements extending beyond the outer surface of the bottom wall toward the support surface when in the first position and not extending beyond the outer surface of the bottom wall when in the second position.

2. The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of walls further includes a front wall and a back wall, and

the plurality of reflective units includes at least one reflective unit disposed on an inner surface of each of the front wall and the back wall.

3. The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of walls further includes a front wall and a top wall.

4. The disinfection system of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of reflective units includes at least one reflective unit disposed on an inner surface of each of the front wall, the top wall, and the bottom wall.

5. The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of walls defines at least one recess configured to receive the plurality of rolling elements, and

each rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements is selectively positionable between the first position in which that rolling element extends out from the at least one recess and the second position in which that rolling element is disposed within the at least one recess.

6. The disinfection system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one recess includes a plurality of recesses, each recess from the plurality of recesses configured to receive a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements.

7. The disinfection system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one recess is formed in at least one of: a side wall from the plurality of side walls, or the bottom wall.

8. The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein

the plurality of rolling elements are selectively positionable between the first position in which the plurality of rolling elements is extended beyond the outer surface and engaged with the support surface and a second position in which the plurality of rolling elements is not extended beyond the bottom wall and the outer surface of the bottom wall is engaged with the support surface.

The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of rolling elements is selectively positionable between the first position in which the plurality of rolling elements can engage with the support surface and enable the disinfection system to be moved from the first location to the second location along the support surface and the second position in which the bottom wall can engage with the support surface to reduce movement of the disinfection system.

The disinfection system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of pistons, each piston from the plurality of pistons coupled to a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements and configured to move that rolling element between a first position in which that rolling element is extended beyond the bottom wall and a second position in which that rolling element is not extended beyond the bottom wall.

11. The disinfection system of claim 10 , further comprising a compressed gas source configured to supply compressed gas to the plurality of pistons to cause the plurality of pistons to move the plurality of rolling elements.

12. The disinfection system of claim 10 , wherein each piston from the plurality of pistons is coupled to a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements via a rod.

13. The disinfection system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of rolling elements includes at least three rolling elements arranged near a perimeter of the bottom wall.

14. A method, comprising:

extending a plurality of rolling elements out beyond a bottom wall of a disinfection system toward a support surface on which the disinfection is disposed, the disinfection system including a plurality of walls defining a chamber, the plurality of walls including the bottom wall and a plurality of side walls;

moving, using the plurality of rolling elements, the disinfection system from a first location to a second location along the support surface;

retracting, after the moving, the plurality of rolling elements such that the plurality of rolling elements do not extend beyond the bottom wall;

receiving, after the moving the disinfection system, an object into the chamber of the disinfection system; and

disinfecting, after the receiving the object and the retracting the plurality of rolling elements, the object using a plurality of energy sources and a plurality of reflective units disposed on inner surfaces of the plurality of side walls of the disinfection chamber.

The method of claim 14 , wherein the extending the plurality of rolling elements includes supplying, via a compressed gas source of a disinfection system, a compressed gas to a plurality of pistons each coupled to a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements, such that the plurality of pistons moves toward the support surface to extend the plurality of rolling elements beyond the bottom wall toward the support surface.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the retracting the plurality of rolling elements includes releasing a compressed gas from a plurality of pistons each coupled to a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the retracting the plurality of rolling elements includes retracting the plurality of rolling elements into at least one recess defined within the plurality of walls.

18. A disinfection system, comprising:

a plurality of walls defining a chamber, the plurality of walls including a bottom wall and a plurality of side walls;

a plurality of reflective units including at least one reflective unit disposed on an inner surface of each side wall from the plurality of side walls;

a plurality of energy sources including at least one energy source housed within each reflective unit from the plurality of reflective units; and

a plurality of rolling elements disposed near the bottom wall and collectively configured to enable the disinfection system to be moved from a first location to a second location, the plurality of rolling elements selectively positionable between a first position in which the plurality of rolling elements is engageable with a support surface and enables the disinfection system to be moved from the first location to the second location along the support surface and a second position in which the bottom wall can engage with the support surface to reduce movement of the disinfection system.

19. The disinfection system of claim 18 , wherein:

the plurality of walls defines at least one recess configured to receive the plurality of rolling elements, and

each rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements extends out from the at least one recess when in the first position and is disposed within the at least one recess when in the second position.

The disinfection system of claim 18 , further comprising a plurality of pistons, each piston from the plurality of pistons coupled to a respective rolling element from the plurality of rolling elements and configured to move that rolling element between a first position in which that rolling element is extended beyond the bottom wall and a second position in which that rolling element is not extended beyond the bottom wall.
