Abstract

Various suture anchors and surgical methods are provided. A two-part suture anchor is provided having a continuously threaded anchor body defining an axial bore and a pin. The pin includes a tip and a plate defining at least two suture receiving openings aligned in a single plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the axial bore is disposed in anchor body. Methods of attaching soft tissue to bone are also provided.

Claims (38)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A suture anchor system, comprising:

an anchor body including a retention feature at an exterior surface of the anchor body, wherein the proximal body is cannulated, wherein a proximal end of the anchor body includes a driver engaging region, wherein a distal end of the anchor body includes a pin engaging region; and

a pin separate from the anchor body, the pin including a suture aperture and an anchor body engaging region, wherein a distal end of the pin includes a tapered tip;

wherein the driver engaging region of the anchor body is configured to receive a driver to drive the anchor body into a portion of a patient's anatomy, such that the pin engaging region of the anchor body engages the anchor body engaging region of the pin, wherein the retention feature is configured to resist removal of the anchor body from the portion of the patient's anatomy.

3 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a conical tip.

4 . The suture anchor system of claim therein the tapered tip comprises a sharp point configured to pierce bone.

5 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a self-tapping tip.

6 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a self-drilling tip.

7 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , wherein the retention feature comprises external threads.

8 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , wherein the suture aperture is configured to receive suture, such that the suture anchor system anchors the suture within the portion of the patient's anatomy.

9 . The suture anchor system of claim 8 , wherein the suture is configured to be passed through the cannulated anchor body.

10 . The suture anchor system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a suture extending through the suture aperture of the pin, such that the anchor body is configured to anchor the pin and the suture within the portion of the patient's anatomy.

11 . A suture anchor system, comprising:

a pin including a suture aperture and a tapered tip, wherein the pin is configured to be implanted in a bone; and

an anchor body separate from the pin, the anchor body including:

a cannula extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the anchor body;

a driver engaging region at the proximal end of the anchor body configured to receive a driver to drive the anchor body into the bone such that the distal end of the anchor body engages the pin; and

an external retention feature configured to resist removal of the anchor body from the bone, such that the anchor body anchors the pin in the bone.

12 . The suture anchor system of claim 11 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a sharp tip configured to pierce through the bone.

13 . The suture anchor system of claim 11 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a self-tapping tip.

14 . The suture anchor system of claim 13 , wherein the tapered tip is configured to form a bone hole, such that the anchor body can be driven into the bone hole and the external retention feature can anchor the anchor body within the bone hole.

15 . The suture anchor system of claim 11 , wherein the tapered tip is tapered such that a proximal end of the tapered tip has a greater width than a distal end of the tapered tip.

16 . The suture anchor system of claim 11 , wherein the external retention feature comprises external protrusions.

17 . The suture anchor system of claim 16 , wherein the external protrusions include parallel surfaces that are parallel to each other.

18 . The suture anchor system of claim 16 , wherein the external protrusions comprise a helical pattern.

19 . A suture anchor system, comprising:

a cannulated anchor body, including:

a driver engaging end;

a pin engaging end; and

an anchoring feature; and

a pin including a suture aperture and a tapered tip;

wherein the pin is configured to be implanted into bone, such that the pin is positioned within a bone hole with the tapered tip contacting a base of the bone hole;

wherein the driver engaging end of the cannulated anchor body is configured to receive a driver to drive the cannulated anchor body into the bone hole, such that the pin engaging end of the cannulated anchor body is in contact with the pin within the bone hole;

wherein the anchoring feature is configured to anchor the cannulated anchor body within the bone hole.

20 . The suture anchor system of claim 19 , wherein the tapered tip comprises a self-tapping conical tip.

21 . The suture anchor system of claim 20 , wherein the tapered tip is configured to pierce bone to form the bone hole.
