Abstract

A door lock system can comprise a door lock movable between a locked state and an unlocked state. The door lock system can detect a first indication suggestive of a presence of a visitor. The door lock system can also detect a second indication suggestive of an identity of the visitor. As well, the door lock can validate that the first indication and the second indication are associated with a first identity.

Claims (33)

1 . A method of operating a door lock system coupled to a building, the door lock system comprising a door lock movable between a locked state and an unlocked state, and an electronic doorbell having a camera, a motion detector, and at least one of a microphone and a speaker, the method comprising:

moving, via the door lock system, the door lock to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state;

taking, via the camera, an image of a visitor in response to moving the door lock to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state; and

transmitting, via the door lock system, the image to a remote computing device communicatively coupled to the door lock system.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, via the door lock system, a first indication suggestive of a presence of the visitor; and

taking, via the camera, the image of the visitor in response to detecting the first indication suggestive of the presence of the visitor.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

detecting, via the door lock system, a second indication suggestive of the presence of the visitor; and

taking, via the camera, the image of the visitor in response to detecting the second indication suggestive of the presence of the visitor.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the first indication comprises a movement of the visitor that is detected by the motion detector.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the second indication comprises one of an audible voice, a fingerprint pattern, and a retina scan.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the door lock to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state occurs in response to the electronic doorbell verifying an identity of the visitor.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, via the door lock system, the image to a secondary computing device communicatively coupled to the door lock system.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the secondary computing device comprises a remote server.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising taking, via the camera, a second image of the visitor in response to moving the door lock to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein taking the image of the visitor comprises taking, via the camera, a video of the visitor in response to moving the door lock to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state.

11 . A door lock system, comprising:

a lock housing;

a door lock coupled to the lock housing, wherein the door lock is arranged and configured to move between a locked state and an unlocked state;

a doorbell housing; and

an electronic doorbell coupled to the doorbell housing and communicatively coupled to the door lock, wherein the electronic doorbell comprises a camera, a motion detector, and at least one of a microphone and a speaker,

wherein the camera is arranged and configured to take an image of a visitor when the door lock moves to at least one of the locked state and the unlocked state, and

wherein the door lock system is arranged and configured to transmit the image to a remote computing device communicatively coupled to the door lock system.

12 . The door lock system of claim 11 , further comprising the remote computing device.

13 . The door lock system of claim 12 , wherein the door lock is further arranged and configured to move between the locked state and the unlocked state in response to an input from the remote computing device.

14 . The door lock system of claim 11 , wherein the doorbell housing is physically separate from the lock housing.

15 . The door lock system of claim 14 , wherein the doorbell housing is located within 2 feet of the lock housing.

16 . The door lock system of claim 11 , wherein the door lock system is arranged and configured to detect a first indication suggestive of a presence of the visitor, and wherein the camera is arranged and configured to take the image of the visitor when the door lock system detects the first indication suggestive of the presence of the visitor.

17 . The door lock system of claim 11 , further comprising a secondary computing device communicatively coupled to the door lock system, wherein the door lock system is arranged and configured to transmit the image to the secondary computing device.

18 . The door lock system of claim 17 , wherein the secondary computing device is a remote server.

19 . The door lock system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic doorbell is further arranged and configured to scan a retina of the visitor and determine the visitor's identity.

20 . The door lock system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic doorbell is further arranged and configured to scan a fingerprint of the visitor and determine the visitor's identity.
