Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for managing a profile in an embedded UICC, and more particularly, to a method for managing a profile in an embedded UICC that enables management information on the profile provided within the embedded UICC to play an essential role for providing communication and additional services, to be provided to a device existing outside the embedded UICC. The present invention also relates to an embedded UICC and to a device provided with the embedded UICC for the method.

Claims (26)

1. A method of managing profiles in an embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC) interworking with a mobile network operator (MNO) and a subscription manager (SM), the method comprising:

receiving an encrypted profile from the SM;

decoding the encrypted profile to be used for provisioning;

receiving a profile management information request from an external entity, wherein the external entity is the MNO, the SM, or a device equipped with the eUICC;

performing a network authentication with the external entity and providing profile management information including a list of activated profiles and deactivated profiles to the external entity;

receiving another encrypted profile from the SM regarding a new MNO upon a MNO change;

decoding the other encrypted profile to be used for provisioning; and

updating the profile management information based on activated profiles.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile management information further includes at least one of a type of profile, profile identification information, and profile description information for the activated profiles.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile management information is modified, activated, or deactivated by an authorized entity.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorized entity is the MNO or the SM.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile includes at least one from among a provisioning profile and an operational profile.

6. An embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC) interworking with a mobile network operator (MNO) and a subscription manager (SM), the eUICC comprising:

a memory configured to store instructions; and

a processor configured to execute the instructions to perform operations of:

receiving an encrypted profile from the SM;

decoding the encrypted profile to be used for provisioning;

receiving a profile management information request from an external entity, wherein the external entity is the MNO, the SM, or a device equipped with the eUICC;

performing a network authentication with the external entity and providing profile management information including a list of activated profiles and deactivated profiles to the external entity;

receiving another encrypted profile from the SM regarding a new MNO upon a MNO change;

decoding the other encrypted profile to be used for provisioning; and

updating the profile management information based on activated profiles.

7. The eUICC of claim 6 , wherein the profile management information further includes at least one of a type of profile, profile identification information, and profile description information for the activated profiles.

8. The eUICC of claim 6 , wherein the profile management information is modified, activated, or deactivated by an authorized entity.

9. The eUICC of claim 8 , wherein the authorized entity is the MNO or the SM.

10. The eUICC of claim 6 , wherein the profile includes at least one of a provisioning profile and an operational profile.
