Abstract

Printhead carriers and adapters are disclosed. An example disclosed print mechanism includes a printhead carrier including first and second pivot mechanisms; and a toggle assembly to, when in an engaged position, apply a force to the printhead carrier with the printhead carrier in a closed configuration, wherein the closed configuration enables printing operations, when in a disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an open configuration via the first pivot mechanism, wherein the open configuration provides access to a printhead carried by the printhead carrier, and when in the disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an access configuration via the second pivot mechanism, wherein the access configuration enables removal of the printhead from the printhead carrier.

Claims (35)

1. A print mechanism, comprising:

a printhead carrier including first and second pivot mechanisms; and

a toggle assembly to:

when in an engaged position, apply a force to the printhead carrier with the printhead carrier in a closed configuration, wherein the closed configuration enables printing operations; and

when in a disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an open configuration via the first pivot mechanism, wherein the open configuration provides access to a printhead carried by the printhead carrier; and

when in the disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an access configuration via the second pivot mechanism, wherein the access configuration enables removal of the printhead from the printhead carrier.

2. A print mechanism as defined in claim 1 , wherein the access configuration enables installation of the printhead to the printhead carrier.

3. A print mechanism as defined in claim 1 , wherein:

the printhead carrier includes a base;

transitioning to the open configuration includes rotating the base about a first axis associated with the first pivot mechanism;

transitioning to the access configuration includes rotating the based about the first axis and rotating a connector about a second axis associated with the second pivot mechanism; and

the first axis is different than the second axis.

4. A print mechanism as defined in claim 1 , further comprising an adapter to be matingly engaged with a printhead assembly including the printhead.

5. A print mechanism as defined in claim 4 , wherein the printhead assembly is mounted to the printhead carrier when in the closed configuration and the open configuration.

6. A print mechanism as defined in claim 4 , wherein the engagement between the adapter and the printhead assembly does not include a cable connector.

7. A print mechanism as defined in claim 4 , wherein the adapter includes a power input connector, a data input connector and an output connector to be coupled to the printhead assembly.

A print mechanism as defined in claim 1 , further comprising a first biasing element coupled to the first pivot mechanism to bias the first pivot mechanism in a first rotational direction, wherein the second pivot mechanism is coupled to a base of the printhead carrier via a shaft and a second biasing element, and the second pivot mechanism to rotate a connector in a second rotational direction different than the first rotational direction, the connector to removably couple a printhead assembly to a logic circuit.

9. A print mechanism as defined in claim 8 , further comprising a fastener to restrict movement of the connector in the second rotational direction.

10. A media processing device, comprising:

a printhead;

a printhead carrier to carry the printhead, the printhead carrier including first and second pivot mechanisms; and

a toggle assembly to:

when in an engaged position, apply a force to the printhead carrier with the printhead carrier in a closed configuration, wherein the closed configuration enables printing operations; and

when in a disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an open configuration via the first pivot mechanism, wherein the open configuration provides access to the printhead; and

when in the disengaged position, allow the printhead carrier to transition to an access configuration via the second pivot mechanism, wherein the access configuration enables removal of the printhead from the printhead carrier.

11. A media processing device as defined in claim 10 , wherein the access configuration enables installation of the printhead to the printhead carrier.

12. A media processing device as defined in claim 10 , wherein:

the printhead carrier includes a base;

transitioning to the open configuration includes rotating the base about a first axis associated with the first pivot mechanism;

transitioning to the access configuration includes rotating the based about the first axis and rotating a connector about a second axis associated with the second pivot mechanism; and

the first axis is different than the second axis.

13. A media processing device as defined in claim 10 , further comprising an adapter to be matingly engaged with a printhead assembly including the printhead.

14. A media processing device as defined in claim 13 , wherein the printhead assembly is mounted to the printhead carrier when in the closed configuration and the open configuration.

15. A media processing device as defined in claim 13 , wherein the engagement between the adapter and the printhead assembly does not include a cable connector.

16. A media processing device as defined in claim 13 , wherein the adapter includes a power input connector, a data input connector and an output connector to be coupled to the printhead assembly.
