Abstract

Components for a perforation gun system are provided including combinations of components including a self-centralizing charge holder system and a bottom connector that can double as a spacer. Any number of spacers can be used with any number of holders for any desired specific metric or imperial shot density, phase and length gun system.

Claims (53)

1. A perforation gun system comprising:

a gun carrier;

a first connector comprising a coupler for providing energetic coupling between a detonator and a detonation cord, and at least one directional locking fin for locking the first connector within the gun carrier; and

at least one second connector positioned in the gun carrier spaced apart from the first connector, wherein the second connector is configured for terminating the detonation cord in the perforation gun system,

wherein at least one of the first and second connectors receive electrical connections therethrough.

2. The perforation gun system of claim 1 , wherein each of the first connector and the second connector comprises:

at least one rotation coupling for providing a selectable clocking rotation between other components of the perforation gun system.

3. The perforation gun system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling provides the selectable clocking rotation between the first connector, the second connector and a charge holder.

4. The perforation gun system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first connector and the second connector is injection molded.

5. The perforation gun system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation coupling and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the second connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about a central axis of the second connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about the central axis of the second connector.

6. The perforation gun system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the first connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about a central axis of the first connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about the central axis of the first connector.

7. The perforation gun system of claim 1 , wherein the second connector comprises:

a terminating structure for terminating the detonation cord; and

a plurality of fins for axially locking the second connector in the perforation gun system.

8. A component for a perforation gun system, comprising:

at least one second connector for terminating a detonation cord in the perforation gun system, wherein

the at least one second connector comprises at least one rotation coupling for providing a selectable clocking rotation between other components of the perforation gun system.

9. The component of claim 8 , wherein the at least one second connector receives electrical connections therethrough.

10. The component of claim 8 , wherein the at least one second connector is injection molded.

11. The component of claim 8 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation coupling and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the second connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about a central axis of the second connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about the central axis of the second connector.

12. The component of claim 8 , wherein the at least one second connector comprises:

a terminating structure for terminating the detonation cord; and

a plurality of fins for axially locking the bottom connector in the perforation gun system.

13. A component for a perforation gun system, comprising:

a first connector comprising:

a coupler for providing energetic coupling between a detonator and a detonation cord;

at least one directional locking fin for locking the first connector within a gun carrier; and

at least one rotation coupling for providing a selectable clocking rotation between other components of the perforation gun system.

14. The component of claim 13 , wherein the first connector is configured to receive electrical connections therethrough.

15. The component of claim 13 , wherein the first connector is injection molded.

16. The component of claim 13 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation coupling and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the first connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about a central axis of the first connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about a central axis of the first connector.

17. The perforating gun assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of stackable charge holders,

wherein the second connector is a plurality of second connectors further configured for spacing each of the plurality of stackable charge holders.

18. The component of claim 8 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation coupling and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the second connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about a central axis of the second connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about the central axis of the second connector.

19. The component of claim 13 , wherein the at least one rotation coupling comprises:

a first rotation coupling and a second rotation coupling positioned on opposite ends of the first connector,

wherein the first rotation coupling comprises a plurality of sockets arranged about a central axis of the first connector, and the second rotation coupling comprises a plurality of pins arranged about the central axis of the first connector.

20. A perforation gun system comprising:

a gun carrier;

a first connector for providing energetic coupling between a detonator and a detonation cord, the first connector positioned in the gun carrier; and

at least one second connector positioned in the gun carrier spaced apart from the first connector, wherein the second connector is configured for terminating the detonation cord in the perforation gun system,

wherein at least one of the first and second connectors receive electrical connections therethrough.
