Abstract

Compositions for platelet rich plasma (PRP) are provided. Generally, these compositions comprise a higher concentration of platelets than whole blood. Concentrations of lymphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils may be different from concentrations found in whole blood. These compositions may have depressed concentrations of red blood cells and hemoglobin. In some variations, the compositions may be useful to treat damaged connective tissue, particularly spinal disc, and/or to slow or stop cardiac apoptosis after a heart attack.

Claims (14)

1 . A composition comprising:

platelets in a concentration of about 500,000/μl to about 7,000,000/μl,

monocytes and lymphocytes in a combined concentration of about 6000/μl to about 25000/μl, and

neutrophils in a concentration of about 1000/μl to about 60,000/μl.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of platelets is between about 600,000 platelets/μl and about 5,000,000 platelets/μl.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of platelets is between about 700,000 platelets/μl and about 2,500,000 platelets/μl.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of platelets is between about 900,000 platelets/μl and about 1,500,000 platelets/μl.

5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include an exogenous activator.

6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the hemoglobin concentration is about 1.0 g/dL to about 5 g/dL.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the hemoglobin concentration is 1 g/dL or less.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of neutrophils is about 5,000/μl to about 20,000/μl.

9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of neutrophils is about 20,000/μl to about 40,000/μl.

10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of neutrophils is about 40,000/μl to about 60,000/μl.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , further comprising, eosinophils in a concentration of about 200/μl to about 1,000/μl.
