Abstract

A liquid crystal display device includes a TFT substrate and a counter substrate and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween. A scanning line, a video signal line, a thin film transistor connected to the scanning line and the video signal line, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, and a counter electrode are formed on the TFT substrate, and a columnar spacer formed on the counter substrate. The pixel and counter electrodes are transparent, and the liquid crystal layer is controlled by an electric field generated between the pixel and counter electrodes. The counter electrode contacts with a metal line having a first part which is extended in parallel with the scanning line and a second part which is extended in parallel with the video signal line, a width of the first part of the metal line being narrower than a width of the scanning line.

Claims (13)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a TFT substrate and a counter substrate;

a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate;

a scanning line, a video signal line, a thin film transistor connected to the scanning line and the video signal line, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, and a counter electrode formed on the TFT substrate; and

a columnar spacer formed on the counter substrate,

wherein the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are transparent, and the liquid crystal layer is controlled by an electric field generated between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode,

wherein the counter electrode contacts with a metal line, and the metal line includes a first part which is extended in parallel with the scanning line, a second part which is extended in parallel with the video signal line, and a third part which is arranged between the first part and the second part, and a width of the first part of the metal line is narrower than a width of the scanning line, and

wherein the first part, the second part and the third part are arranged adjacent to an intersection of the scanning line and the video signal line, and the second part is separated from the first and the third part, and the columnar spacer is arranged at the intersection of the scanning line and the video signal line.

2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the width of the first part of the metal line is 3 μm or less.

3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , further comprises a first insulating film disposed between the scanning line and the video signal line, and a second insulating film disposed between the pixel electrode ant the counter electrode.

4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , further comprises a third insulating film disposed between the thin film transistor and the pixel electrode.

5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein the third insulating film is an organic film.

6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein the upper surface of the metal line is covered by the counter electrode.
