Abstract

A disinfectant formulation comprising a poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) and a quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds is provided. A wipe having a residual biocidal property is also provided. The wipe formulation comprises a substrate comprised of a fibrous material, and the formulation present on or in the substrate. The formulation comprises a poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline), a quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds, a surfactant, water, and an optional fragrance.

Claims (42)

1. A wipe having a residual biocidal property, the wipe comprising:

a woven or non-woven substrate comprised of a fibrous material, and

a disinfectant formulation present on or in the substrate;

wherein the disinfectant formulation comprises:

an oxazoline homopolymer having a structure of

wherein

R 1 is hydroxyl,

R 2 is hydroxyl,

R 3 is alkyl,

n is in a range of 1 to 1,000,000;

a quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds;

a surfactant;

water; and

an optional fragrance;

wherein the oxazoline homopolymer is present in an amount of 0.2% to 3% by weight and the quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds is present in an amount of 0.05% to 20% by weight based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation.

2. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the substrate is water absorbent, water adsorbent, or both.

3. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the substrate is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a natural material, a synthetic material, and a combination thereof.

4. The wipe according to claim 3 , wherein the natural material is selected from the group consisting of cotton, linen, silk, wool, hemp, flax, and a combination thereof.

5. The wipe according to claim 3 , wherein the synthetic material is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, polystyrene, polyester, nylon, rayon, acrylic, spandex, and a combination thereof.

6. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein non-woven substrate is selected from the group consisting of melt-blown, coformed, spunbonded, airlaid, hydroentangled, spunlaced, bonded, carded, laminated, and a combination thereof.

7. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds is in a ratio to the oxazoline homopolymer of 1:4 to 1:1.

8. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the quaternary ammonium compound is in an amount of at least 0.2 weight percent, and the weight percentage is based on total weight of the formulation.

9. The wipe according to claim 8 , wherein the quaternary ammonium compound is in an amount of 0.2 weight percent to 2 weight percent, and the weight percentage is based on total weight of the formulation.

10. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is a nonionic surfactant.

11. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is an alcohol ethoxylate.

12. The wipe according to claim 11 , wherein the alcohol ethoxylate is in an amount of 0.05 weight % to 0.5 weight %, and the weight percentage is based on total weight of the formulation.

13. The wipe according to claim 11 , wherein the alcohol ethoxylate is a linear alcohol ethoxylate with at least 9 moles of ethylene oxide.

14. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the fragrance is present in an amount of greater than 0 weight % to 0.5 weight %, and the weight percentage is based on total weight of the formulation.

15. The wipe according to claim 1 , wherein the formulation further comprises an alcohol, a salt, an acid, or a combination thereof.

16. A wipe having a residual biocidal property, the wipe comprising:

a woven or non-woven substrate comprised of a fibrous material, and

a formulation present on or in the substrate;

wherein the formulation comprises:

1 weight % to 2 weight % of a poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline),

at least 0.2 weight % of a quaternary ammonium compound or combination of quaternary ammonium compounds,

0.1 weight % to 0.3 weight % of an alcohol ethoxylate with at least 9 moles of ethylene oxide, and

a balance of water,

wherein weight percentages are based on total weight of the formulation.

17. The wipe according to claim 16 , wherein the substrate is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a natural material, a synthetic material, and a combination thereof.

18. The wipe according to claim 17 , wherein the synthetic material is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, polystyrene, polyester, nylon, rayon, acrylic, spandex, and a combination thereof.

19. The wipe according to claim 16 , wherein the alcohol ethoxylate has at least 12 moles of ethylene oxide.

20. The wipe according to claim 16 , wherein the formulation further comprises 0.05 weight percent to 0.2 weight percent of a fragrance.
