Abstract

The present embodiments relate to elite event NS-B50027-4, seeds and oils obtained from NS-B50027-4, progeny derived from NS-B50027-4, the genetic and phenotypic characteristics of NS-B50027-4, and compositions and methods for the identification of elite event NS-B50027-4. In particular, NS-B50027-4 is a transgenic canola line capable of producing at least 5% DHA in its seed oil.

Claims (16)

1. Seed of inbred canola line NS-B50027-4, representative seed of said inbred canola line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-123186.

2. A canola plant, or a part thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 1 .

3. The canola plant part of claim 2 , wherein said part is at least one of seed, leaf, pollen, embryo, root, root tip, pod, flower, ovule, stalk, cell, protoplast, or tissue culture.

4. A method of producing canola oil, comprising obtaining seed of the plant of claim 2 and processing the seed to obtain canola oil.

5. A method of producing docosahexaenoic acid in the seed of the plant of claim 2 , comprising cultivating the plant.

6. The seed of the plant cultivated as in claim 5 .

7. The plant or plant part of claim 2 , or a derivative or hybrid of said plant, comprising at least one pair of nucleic acid molecules selected from:

(a) SEQ ID NO:43 (TGGAGGTGTTCAAACACT) and SEQ ID NO:44 (ATAGTATTAGTATACAGA), sequences at least 95% identical to either or both of these, or complements thereof;

(b) SEQ ID NO:45 (GGCTAAGGTAACACTGAT) and SEQ ID NO:46 (CAGTGTTTGAAGGACAGA), sequences at least 95% identical to either or both of these, or complements thereof;

(c) SEQ ID NO:47 and SEQ ID NO:48, sequences at least 95% identical to either or both these, or complements thereof; or

(d) SEQ ID NO:49 and SEQ ID NO:50, sequences at least 95% identical to either or both these, or complements thereof;

wherein the derivative or hybrid of said plant exhibits the derived trait of the seed of inbred canola line NS-B50027-4 of claim 1 .

8. The plant of claim 2 , wherein the plant comprises:

(i) a first transgenic expression cassette consisting of the nucleic acid sequence indicated at positions 2090 to 14201 of SEQ ID NO:40; and

(ii) a second transgenic expression cassette consisting of the nucleic acid sequence indicated at positions 1268 to 47773 of SEQ ID NO:41.

9. A collection of seed comprising at least 95% seed of the plant of claim 2 , or a derivative or hybrid thereof, wherein said seed comprises about 5% to about 16% docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), inclusive (wt. % of total fatty acids in seed)), or about 5% to 17%, inclusive, long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (sum eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, and DHA as wt. % of total fatty acids in seed).
