Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion with a face portion, a toe portion, a top portion, a sole portion, and a back portion. The golf club head may include an interior cavity. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (29)

1 . A golf club head comprising:

a plurality of weight portions including a first set of weight portions with each weight portion of the first set of weight portions having a first height and a second set of weight portions with each weight portion of the second set of weight portions having a second height greater than the first height; and

a body portion having a face portion, a toe portion, a top portion, a sole portion, and a back portion with a plurality of exterior weight ports, each of the plurality of exterior weight ports configured to receive a weight portion of the plurality of weight portions,

wherein at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions is located closer to the sole portion than at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions.

2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , further comprising a third set of weight portions having a greater height than the second set of weight portions, wherein at least one weight portion of the third set of weight portions is closer to the toe portion than at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions.

3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , further comprising a third set of weight portions having a greater height than the second set of weight portions, wherein at least one weight portion of the third set of weight portions is located closer to the sole portion than at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions.

4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first height is greater than or equal to about 0.1 inch (2.54 millimeters) and less than or equal to about 0.3 inch (7.62 millimeters) and the second height is greater than or equal to about 0.2 inch (5.08 millimeters) and less than or equal to about 0.5 inch (12.7 millimeters).

5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions comprises a material having a first density and at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions comprises a material having a second density different from the first density.

6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein each weight portion of the second set of weight portions has a greater mass than each weight portion of the first set of weight portions.

7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the body portion includes an interior cavity extending between the top and sole portions, and wherein the interior cavity comprises a cavity partially or entirely filled with an elastic polymer material.

8 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of weight portions comprises at least one weight portion made of a tungsten-based material.

9 . A golf club head comprising:

a plurality of weight portions including a first set of weight portions with each weight portion of the first set of weight portions comprising a material having a first density and a second set of weight portions with each weight portion of the second set of weight portions comprising a material having a second density greater than the first density; and

a body portion having a face portion, a toe portion, a top portion, a sole portion, and a back portion with a plurality of exterior weight ports, each of the plurality of exterior weight ports configured to receive a weight portion of the plurality of weight portions,

wherein at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions is located closer to the sole portion than at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions.

10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , further comprising a third set of weight portions comprising a material having a greater density than the second set of weight portions, wherein at least one weight portion of the third set of weight portions is closer to the toe portion than at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions.

11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , further comprising a third set of weight portions comprising a material having a greater density than the second set of weight portions, wherein at least one weight portion of the third set of weight portions is located closer to the sole portion than at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions.

12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein each weight portion of the plurality of weight portions has a height greater than or equal to about 0.1 inch (2.54 millimeters) and less than or equal to about 0.5 inch (12.7 millimeters).

13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein at least one weight portion of the first set of weight portions is located above a horizontal midplane of the golf club head and at least one weight portion of the second set of weight portions is located below the horizontal midplane.

14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the body portion includes an interior cavity extending between the top and sole portions, and wherein the interior cavity comprises a cavity partially or entirely filled with an elastic polymer material.

15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the plurality of weight portions comprises at least one weight portion made of a tungsten-based material.

16 . A golf club head comprising:

a plurality of weight portions including at least a first weight portion having a first physical property and a second weight portion having a second physical property different from the first physical property; and

a body portion having an interior cavity partially or entirely filled with an elastic polymer material, a face portion, a toe portion, a top portion, a sole portion, and a back portion with a plurality of exterior weight ports, each of the plurality of exterior weight ports configured to receive a weight portion of the plurality of weight portions,

wherein the at least first weight portion is associated with a first region on the back portion of the body portion and the at least second weight portion is associated with a second region on the back portion of the body portion different from the first region.

17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the second region is closer to the sole portion than the first region.

18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the first physical property of the at least first weight portion is a height of the first weight portion, and wherein the second physical property of the at least second weight portion is a height of the second weight portion.

19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the first physical property of the at least first weight portion is a material density of the first weight portion, and wherein the second physical property of the at least second weight portion is a material density of the second weight portion.

20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the first physical property of the at least first weight portion is a height of the at least first weight portion, wherein the second physical property of the at least second weight portion is a height of the at least second weight portion, and wherein the height of the at least first weight portion or the height of the at least second weight portion is greater than or equal to about 0.1 inch (2.54 millimeters) and less than or equal to about 0.5 inch (12.7 millimeters).
