System and method for user enrollment in a secure biometric verification system
View Patent ↗A computer-implemented method and system for verifying the identity of a user in an identity authentication and biometric verification system which includes collecting information from the user regarding the user's identity, which is then electronically authenticated. Upon authentication, personal information regarding the verified identity of the user is retrieved from a source database which is used to verify the identity of the user, via user interaction. Upon successful verification and authentication, biometric data regarding the user is electronically collected.
1. A computer-implemented method for verifying an identity of a person using an electronic device connected to a network, comprising the steps of:
inputting by a first input component of the electronic device, information regarding the identity of the person;
scanning by a second input component of the electronic device, one or more documents associated with the identity of the person;
utilizing the scanned one or more documents to verify the identity of the person;
electronically retrieving by the electronic device from a connected database, information relating to the person's verified identity;
formatting the retrieved information as a question to be presented to the person;
soliciting, from the person, an answer to the question;
authenticating the person's verified identity by analysis of the answer to the question;
upon authentication of the person's verified identity, electronically collecting by a third input component of the electronic device, biometric data to be used for future authentication of the person's verified identity.
2. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the electronic device formats the retrieved information as a question to be presented to the person.
3. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the electronic device is configured as a kiosk device.
4. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the connected database is coupled to the electronic device via the network.
5. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the connected database is a third-party database.
6. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the connected database is a LEXIS NEXIS™ database.
7. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the step of upon authentication of the person's verified identity further includes generating an identification token containing information based on the collected biometric data.
8. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the step of generating the identification token includes embedding the generated identification token on a tangible medium.
9. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein electronically collecting the biometric data includes scanning a fingerprint of the person by the third input component.
10. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein electronically collecting the biometric data includes scanning an iris of the person by the third input component.
11. A computer implemented method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the electronic device performs analysis of the answer to the question presented to the person.
12. A computerized device configured for verifying an identity of a person, comprising:
a computer processor;
a biometric input component;
a keyboard input component coupled to the computer processor for inputting the identity of the person;
a document scanning component coupled to the computer processor for scanning one or more documents whereby the computer processor is instructed to verify the identity of the person based upon information captured from the scanned one or more documents,
whereby the computer processor is further instructed to:
electronically retrieve from at least one database connected to the computer processor, after
the person's identity has been verified, information relating to the person's verified identity and presenting the information retrieved from the at least one database to the person in the form of a question soliciting an answer relevant to the retrieved information;
authenticate the person's verified identity by analysis of the answer to the question; and
upon successful authentication of the person's verified identity, collect biometric data by the biometric component.
13. A computerized device as recited in claim 12 , wherein the computerized device is configured as a kiosk device.
14. A computerized device as recited in claim 13 , wherein the at least one database is coupled to the computerized device via a network.
15. A computerized device as recited in claim 12 , wherein the at least one database is a third-party database.
16. A computerized device as recited in claim 12 , wherein the at least one database is a LEXIS NEXIS™ database.
17. A computerized device as recited in claim 13 , wherein the processor is further instructed to generate an identification token containing information based on the collected biometric data after the biometric data is collected from the person.
18. A computerized device as recited in claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to embed the generated identification token on a tangible medium.
19. A computerized device as recited in claim 13 , wherein electronically collecting the biometric data includes scanning a fingerprint of the person by the biometric input component.
20. A computerized device as recited in claim 13 , wherein electronically collecting the biometric data includes scanning an iris of the person by the biometric input component.
