Abstract

A system and method include a gauge device and one or more of a communication device or a pulling assembly. The gauge device may be configured to send a message to display on one or more of the communication device or pulling assembly. Additionally or alternatively, the gauge device may be configured to send the message to be processed by pulling assembly to determine and perform a pull action. Additionally or alternatively, the gauge device may be configured to send the message to be executed by the pulling assembly to perform a pull action.

Claims (27)

1. A method configured to provide alerts in a cable pulling system operatively coupled to a display device, the method comprising:

measuring, by a gauge device, a tension in a cable in operative contact with at least one roller of the gauge device, the gauge device coupled between a cable pulling assembly and a conduit or a cable tray;

determining if the measured tension exceeds a first threshold; and

sending a first message to the display device if the measured tension exceeds the first threshold.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining if the measured tension exceeds a second threshold; and

sending a second message to the display device if the measured tension exceeds the second threshold.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising

measuring, by the gauge device at least one of a force measurement, a distance of pull, and a speed measurement; and

displaying at least one of the force measurement, the distance of pull, and the speed measurement on the display device.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising

measuring, by the gauge device at least one of a force measurement, a distance of pull, and a speed measurement; and

sending at least one of the force measurement, the distance of pull, and the speed measurement to a communication device.

5. The method of claim 2 , further comprising stopping the cable pulling assembly from pulling the cable based at least in part on sending the first message or the second message.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein stopping the cable pulling assembly comprises causing a motor to be controlled.

7. A gauge device, comprising:

a frame having a first plate and an oppositely disposed second plate;

a plurality of rollers rotatably supported between the first and second plates, the rollers configured to contact a cable under tension;

a sensor operatively coupled to the rollers and configured to sense a tension in the cable during a cable pull by a cable pulling assembly;

a communication interface in operative communication with the cable pulling assembly; and

a processor operatively coupled with the sensor and with the communication interface, wherein the processor is configured to send a message to the cable pulling assembly via the communication interface when a tension in the cable is sensed by the sensor that exceeds a predetermined threshold.

8. The gauge device of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises an alert message, and wherein the alert message is at least one of an audio alert and a visual alert.

9. The gauge device of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises at least a portion of the pull information.

10. The gauge device of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises a command that controls the cable pulling assembly.

11. The gauge device of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured to send information to the communication interface for display.

12. The gauge device of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises one or more of a stop pulling command, a start pulling command, an increase pull speed command or a decrease pull speed command.

13. The gauge device of claim 7 , further including a display to display the information.
