Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for monitoring a patient by positioning the patient for a predetermined medical mission; sensing biometric and physical conditions of a patient during the mission, and displaying a multimedia interaction with the patient to keep the patient in a predetermined position to improve efficacy of a medical mission.

Claims (81)

1 . A virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission comprising:

a medical mission system to perform a medical mission;

a motion detector system to capture a real-time physical position data corresponding to a real-time physical position of a patient;

a biofeedback system positioned on the patient to capture a real-time biometric data corresponding to a real-time biometric value of a patient;

a head mounted display system to provide sensory feedback to the patient, the head mounted display system displaying an avatar in a virtual environment representative of the real-time physical position data of the patient and a virtual biometric data representative of the real-time biometric data of the patient;

a console system in communication with the medical mission system, the motion detector system, and the head mounted display system, the console system configured to establish a physical position data range and a biometric data range;

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time physical position data is within the physical position data range; and

wherein, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, the patient may adjust the real-time physical position to manipulate the real-time physical position data to be within the physical position data range to perform the medical mission.

2 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 1 , wherein the motion detection system comprises:

a chest motion detector positioned on a chest of the patient.

3 . The virtual medical application system for maintaining a physical positionining of a patient during a medical mission of claim 2 , wherein the real-time physical position data comprises a real-time chest position data;

wherein the physical position data range comprises a baseline chest position data and a chest position data range, the chest position data range including a maximum chest position and a minimum chest position; and

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time chest position data is within the chest position data range.

4 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 1 , wherein the motion detection system further comprises:

an abdomen motion detector positioned on an abdomen of the patient.

5 . The virtual medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 4 , wherein the real-time physical position data comprises a real-time abdomen position data;

wherein the physical position data range comprises a baseline abdomen position data and a abdomen position data range, the abdomen position data range including a maximum abdomen position and a minimum abdomen position; and

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time abdomen position data is within the abdomen position data range.

6 . A virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission comprising:

a medical mission system to perform a medical mission;

a chest motion detector attached to a chest of a patient to capture a real-time chest position data corresponding to a real-time chest position of the patient;

a head mounted display system to provide sensory feedback to the patient, the head mounted display system displaying an avatar in a virtual environment representative of the real-time chest position data of the patient;

a console system in communication with the medical mission system, the chest motion detector, and the head mounted display system, the console system configured to establish a chest position data range;

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time chest position data is within the chest position data range; and

wherein, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, the patient may adjust the real-time chest position to manipulate the real-time chest position data to be within the chest position data range to perform the medical mission.

7 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 6 , further comprising:

an abdomen motion detector attached to an abdomen of a patient to capture a real-time abdomen position data corresponding to a real-time abdomen position of the patient;

wherein the console system is in communication with the abdomen motion detector and configured to establish an abdomen position data range;

wherein the avatar in the virtual environment is also representative of the real-time abdomen position data of the patient;

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time abdomen position data is within the abdomen position data range; and

wherein, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, the patient may adjust the real-time abdomen position to manipulate the real-time abdomen position data to be within the abdomen position data range to perform the medical mission.

8 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 7 , further comprising:

a body position motion detector system with a field of view capable of detecting 3-D motion, wherein the patient is within the field of view of the image sensor to capture a real-time body position data corresponding to a body position of the patient;

wherein the console system is in communication with the body position motion detector system and configured to establish a body position data range;

wherein the avatar in the virtual environment is also representative of the real-time body position data of the patient;

wherein the medical mission system performs a medical mission when the real-time body position data is within the body position data range; and

wherein, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, the patient may adjust the real-time body position to manipulate the real-time body position data to be within the body position data range to perform the medical mission.

9 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 8 , further comprising:

a biofeedback system positioned on the patient to capture real-time biometric data corresponding to real-time biometric measurements of the patient;

wherein the console system establishes a biometric data range; and

wherein the patient may adjust the real-time biometric measurements to manipulate the real-time biometric data to be within the biometric data range.

10 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 9 , wherein the medical mission system is further configured to perform the medical mission when the real-time biometric data is within the biometric data range.

11 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 10 , further comprising a head motion detector attached to the head mounted display.

12 . The virtual reality medical application system for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 11 , further comprising:

a patient controller system to allow the patient to interact with the virtual reality medical application system.

13 . A method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission comprising:

providing a virtual reality medical application system comprising a medical mission system, a chest motion detector, a head mounted display system, and a console system in communication with the medical mission system, the chest motion detector, and the head mounted display system;

placing a patient in the medical mission system;

placing the chest motion detector on the patient;

placing the head mounted display system on the patient;

receiving, by the chest motion detector, a real-time chest position data corresponding to a real-time chest position of the patient;

establishing, by the console system, a chest position data range for the real-time chest position data;

displaying, by the head mounted display system, an avatar in a virtual environment representative of the real-time chest position data of the patient;

determining, by the console system, whether the real-time chest position data of the patient is within the chest position data range;

performing a medical mission, by the medical mission system, when the real-time chest position data is within the chest position data range; and

wherein the patient may adjust the real-time chest position data, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, to manipulate the real-time chest position data to be within the physical chest data range.

14 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 13 , further comprising:

providing the virtual reality medical application system further comprising an abdomen motion detector;

positioning the abdomen motion detector on the patient;

receiving, by the abdomen motion detector, a real-time abdomen position data corresponding to a real-time abdomen position of the patient;

establishing, by the console system, an abdomen position data range for the real-time abdomen position data;

displaying, by the head mounted display system, the avatar in the virtual environment representative of the real-time abdomen position data of the patient;

determining, by the console system, whether the real-time abdomen position data of the patient is within the abdomen position data range;

performing a medical mission, by the medical mission system, when the real-time abdomen position data is within the abdomen position data range; and

wherein the patient may adjust the real-time abdomen position data, by referencing the movements of the avatar in the virtual environment, to manipulate the real-time abdomen position data to be within the physical chest data range.

15 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 14 , further comprising:

providing the virtual reality medical application system further comprising a biofeedback system;

positioning the biofeedback system detector on the patient;

receiving, by the biofeedback system, a real-time biometric data corresponding to a real-time biometric measurements of the patient;

establishing, by the console system, a biometric data range for the real-time biometric data;

displaying, by the head mounted display system, a virtual biometric data of the avatar in the virtual environment representative of the real-time biometric data of the patient;

determining, by the console system, whether the real-time biometric data of the patient is within the biometric data range;

performing a medical mission, by the medical mission system, when the real-time biometric data is within the biometric data range; and

wherein the patient may adjust the real-time biometric data, by referencing the virtual biometric data of the avatar in the virtual environment, to manipulate the real-time biometric data to be within the biometric data range.

16 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 15 , wherein the virtual environment is a video game environment and the avatar is a character in the video game environment.

17 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 16 , further comprising:

implementing a video game level in the video game environment; and

transitioning the video game level from an incomplete state to a complete state upon detecting the completion of the video game level goal.

18 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 17 , wherein the video game level goal is completed only if the real-time chest positioning data is within the chest position data range for a medical mission time period.

19 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 17 , wherein the video game level goal is completed only if the real-time abdomen positioning data is within the abdomen position data range for a medical mission time period.

20 . The method for maintaining a physical positioning of a patient during a medical mission of claim 17 , wherein the video game level goal is completed only if the real-time biometric data is within the biometric data range for a medical mission time period.
