Abstract

This application relates to the field of reveal architectural panel assemblies. The apparatus replaces prior art assembly methods and fasteners with a particular mounting structure to facilitate assembly. The frame extrusions are modified to facilitate assembly with adhesive sealants and removal of mechanical fasteners and increase ease in adaptation and installation.

Claims (27)

1. An architectural panel assembly configured to be attached to a building surface, the panel assembly comprising:

a first outer panel comprising a first face panel, a first side panel, wherein the first face panel, the first side panel, are a unitary structure, the first side panel, formed by bending the first face panel;

a first frame member fixed to the first outer panel;

the first frame member having a laterally extending portion configured to be mounted directly to the building surface;

a second outer panel comprising a second face panel, a second side panel, wherein the second face panel, the second side panel, are a unitary structure, the second side panel, formed by bending the second face panel;

the laterally extending portion of the first frame member protruding laterally beyond the first side panel;

a second frame member fixed to the second outer panel;

the second frame member having a protrusion configured to laterally engage a surface defining a receiver in the first frame member;

the protrusion of the second frame member offset from the laterally extending portion of the first frame member, forming a gap therebetween; and

the protrusion of the second frame member extends laterally beyond the second side panel.

2. The panel assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the first frame member is adhered to the first outer panel.

3. The panel assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the second frame member is adhered to the second outer panel.

4. The panel assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the protrusion of the second frame member has an expanded end thereon with a larger width than the protrusion, and wherein the expanded end of the protrusion forms a seal to the receiver.

5. The panel assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the protrusion of the second frame member transversely overlaps the extending portion of the first frame member.

6. An architectural panel assembly configured to be attached to a building surface, the panel assembly comprising:

an outer panel comprising a face panel, a first side panel, a second side panel wherein the face panel, the first side panel, second side panel are a unitary structure, the first side panel, second side panel formed by bending the face panel;

a mounting extrusion frame member fixed to the face panel;

the mounting extrusion frame member having an extending portion configured to be mounted to the building surface;

an insert extrusion frame member fixed to the face panel;

the insert extrusion frame member having a protrusion configured to laterally engage a surface defining a receiver in the mounting extrusion frame member;

the insert extrusion frame member having a transverse attachment surface to which is attached at least one of the first side panel;

wherein the extending portion of the mounting extrusion frame member does not extend laterally beyond a transverse attachment surface of an adjacent panel assembly; and

wherein the insert extrusion comprises a transverse extension extending to directly contact the building surface.

7. The panel assembly as recited in claim 6 wherein the mounting extrusion frame member is adhered to the second side panel.

8. The panel assembly as recited in claim 6 wherein the insert extrusion is adhered to the first side panel.

9. The panel assembly as recited in claim 6 wherein the protrusion of the insert extrusion has an expanded end thereon with a larger width than the protrusion, and wherein the expanded end of the protrusion forms a seal to the receiver.

10. The panel assembly as recited in claim 6 wherein the protrusion of the second frame member transversely overlaps the extending portion of the first frame member.
