System and Method for Enabling Voice and Video Communications Using a Messaging Application
A method and system are provided for enabling voice communications via a messaging application. The method comprises enabling an instant messaging (IM) presence status option to be selected; and blocking an incoming voice communication when the presence status option has been selected. A method and system are also provided comprising displaying a first instant message in an instant messaging conversation user interface comprising call status information; and displaying updated call status information in the instant messaging conversation user interface after determining whether an call attempt has been successful.
1 . A method operable in a mobile device arranged to conduct cellular-based calls comprising:
displaying an incoming call user interface after detecting an incoming call from a caller, the incoming call user interface comprising an incoming call screen used for cellular-based calls;
detecting selection of an option in the incoming call user interface to ignore the incoming call; and
displaying in an instant messaging conversation user interface associated with the caller, a first instant message indicating that the incoming call attempt has been unsuccessful.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
enabling a second instant message to be composed; and
displaying the second instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface after the second instant message has been sent to the caller.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
displaying the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
4 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
receiving a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
displaying the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
6 . A computer readable storage medium comprising computer executable instructions for:
displaying an incoming call user interface after detecting an incoming call from a caller, the incoming call user interface comprising an incoming call screen used for cellular-based calls;
detecting selection of an option in the incoming call user interface to ignore the incoming call; and
displaying in an instant messaging conversation user interface associated with the caller, a first instant message indicating that the incoming call attempt has been unsuccessful.
7 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 6 , further comprising:
enabling a second instant message to be composed; and
displaying the second instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface after the second instant message has been sent to the caller.
8 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 6 , further comprising:
receiving a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
displaying the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
9 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 7 , further comprising:
receiving a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
displaying the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
10 . A mobile electronic device comprising a processor, memory, and a communication module, the memory comprising computer executable instructions to:
display an incoming call user interface after detecting an incoming call from a caller, the incoming call user interface comprising an incoming call screen used for cellular-based calls;
detect selection of an option in the incoming call user interface to ignore the incoming call; and
display in an instant messaging conversation user interface associated with the caller, a first instant message indicating that the incoming call attempt has been unsuccessful.
11 . The mobile electronic device of claim 10 , further comprising:
enable a second instant message to be composed; and
display the second instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface after the second instant message has been sent to the caller.
12 . The mobile electronic device of claim 10 , further comprising:
receive a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
display the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
13 . The mobile electronic device of claim 11 , further comprising:
receive a third instant message from the caller subsequent to the incoming call attempt; and
display the third instant message in the instant messaging conversation user interface.
