Abstract

Systems and methods for delivery of fluid to a wound therapy dressing. In exemplary embodiments, a pressure sensor measures the pressure at the wound therapy dressing and restricts fluid flow to the wound therapy dressing when a predetermined pressure is achieve.

Claims (24)

1. A system for use with a wound dressing, comprising:

a pressure sensor operatively coupled to the wound dressing;

a controller operatively coupled to the pressure sensor and a fluid flow device, the controller configured to activate the fluid flow device to provide fluid to the wound dressing until a predetermined pressure in a range of −10 mmHg to 0 mmHg at the wound dressing is reached;

a reservoir configured to be in fluid communication with the wound dressing;

a vent coupled to the reservoir and configured to selectively open the reservoir to atmosphere; and

a valve configured to restrict fluid flow from the reservoir to the wound dressing.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vent is configured to open the reservoir to atmosphere prior to activation of the fluid flow device.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the valve is configured to maintain a negative pressure at the wound dressing.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the valve is a check valve.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the valve is configured to be positioned between the wound dressing and the reservoir.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is a pump.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is a peristaltic pump.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is a centrifugal pump.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein the fluid flow device is a solenoid-actuated pinch valve.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is a second valve.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to receive a control signal from the pressure sensor when the pressure sensor detects the predetermined pressure, wherein the controller is configured to deactivate or close the fluid flow device when the pressure sensor sends the control signal to the control device.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the fluid flow device is a pump, and wherein the controller is a control switch configured to turn the pump on or off.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the controller comprises a control switch configured to stop operation of the fluid flow device when the pressure sensor detects the predetermined pressure at the wound dressing.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the controller comprises a solenoid valve configured to close when the pressure sensor detects the predetermined pressure at the wound dressing.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the fluid flow device is a second valve, and wherein the controller comprises an actuator configured to change the position of the second valve.

16. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a negative pressure source configured to be activated to deliver negative pressure to the wound dressing, wherein when the negative pressure source is deactivated, the vent is configured to open the reservoir to atmosphere and the fluid flow device is configured to be activated or opened to deliver fluid to the wound dressing.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is configured to be deactivated or closed for restricting fluid flow to the wound dressing when the wound dressing is at the predetermined pressure.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid flow device is in fluid communication between a fluid supply reservoir and the wound dressing.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined pressure is indicative of a desired volume of fluid in the wound dressing.
