Abstract

A patient interface has a single loop headstrap and a mask for covering at least the nostrils of the user. The single loop headstrap extends from the mask at either end. A short length of supple conduit is coupled to the mask by a swivel or ball joint to allow rotation of the conduit relative to the mask through different angles and orientations.

Claims (35)

1. A patient interface comprising:

a mask assembly comprising a seal and a frame;

the seal comprising a pair of protruding nostril locators, each nostril locator including an outlet aperture configured to seal against at least a nostril of a user, the seal also comprising an oval air supply aperture with a larger dimension of the oval air supply aperture extending in a lateral direction, and a rigid loop member extending around the oval air supply aperture and at least first and second rigid barbs protruding from the rigid loop member at locations adjacent to the oval air supply aperture;

the frame comprising a distal side comprising a connector connected to a flexible tube, the flexible tube comprising a supply connector located at a distal end of the flexible tube, the supply connector comprising a swivel,

the frame further comprising first and second lateral sides and first and second arms extending from the first and second lateral sides, respectively, the frame also comprising first and second recesses clipped into engagement with the first and second rigid barbs holding the seal into sealing engagement with a proximal side of the frame;

a headstrap comprising a knitted tubular material, a first headstrap end portion and a second headstrap end portion, the first and second headstrap end portions being removably engageable with the first and second arms; and

an oval arrangement of a plurality of bias flow holes disposed on the distal side of the frame, and a gas inlet disposed in a center of the oval arrangement of the plurality of bias flow holes.

2. A patient interface as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the headstrap comprises a flattened tube of the knitted tubular material and comprises first and second flattened elongated side walls with a hollow area disposed between the first and second side walls, the first side wall having an outer surface facing toward a user in use and the second side wall having an outer surface facing away from a user in use.

3. A patient interface as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first and second arms comprise a connection point for attachment of the first and second headstrap end portions, the connection point comprising an elongate slot formed between proximal and distal surfaces of the first and second lateral arms, at least portions of the first and second headstrap end portions being received in a respective elongate slot.

4. A patient interface comprising:

a mask assembly comprising a seal and a frame;

the seal comprising a pair of protruding nostril locators protruding from the seal, each nostril locator including an outlet aperture configured to seal against at least a nostril of the user, the seal also including an air supply aperture;

the frame comprising a distal side comprising a connector connected to a flexible supply tube and a gas outlet clipped to the seal;

a headstrap comprising a knitted, hollow elongated tubular material with a first end and a second end, the first and second ends connected to the frame; and

a plurality of bias flow holes disposed in an oval area on the distal side of the frame with a larger dimension of the oval area extending in a lateral direction, the connector disposed in a center of the oval area.

5. A patient interface as claimed in claim 4 , the seal comprising a rigid loop member over molded to the air supply aperture of the seal.

6. A patient interface as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the air supply aperture is oval with a larger dimension of the air supply aperture extending in a lateral direction.

7. A patient interface as claimed in claim 5 additionally comprising at least one barbed member extending from the rigid loop member into engagement with the frame.

8. A patient interface as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the frame comprises at least one recess clipped into engagement with the at least one barbed member.

9. A patient interface as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the seal also comprises first and second rigid barbs protruding from locations adjacent to the air supply aperture.

10. A patient interface as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the first and second rigid barbs are on opposite sides of the air supply aperture.

11. A patient interface as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the frame comprises first and second recesses clipped into engagement with the first and second rigid barbs holding the seal into sealing engagement with the frame.

12. A patient interface as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the frame comprises first and second lateral sides and first and second arms extending from the first and second lateral sides, respectively, the first and second arms connected to the first and second ends of the headstrap.

13. A patient interface as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the first and second headstrap ends are removably connectable with the first and second arms, the headstrap having a middle portion disposed adjacent a back of a user's head in use.

14. A patient interface as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the headstrap further comprises a first end portion and a second end portion, the first and second end portions connected to the frame is hollow and elongated and comprises first and second flattened elongated side walls with a hollow area disposed between the first and second side walls, the first side wall having an outer surface facing toward a user in use and the second side wall having an outer surface facing away from a user in use.

15. A patient interface comprising:

a mask assembly comprising a seal and a frame;

the seal comprising a pair of protruding nostril locators, each nostril locator including an outlet aperture configured to seal against at least a nostril of the user, the seal also including an air supply aperture and at least one rigid barb;

the frame comprising a distal side comprising a gas inlet for connection with a gas supply conduit and a gas outlet clipped to the at least one rigid barb;

a headstrap comprising a knitted, tubular material connected to the frame; and

an oval arrangement of a plurality of bias flow holes disposed on the distal side of the frame, the gas inlet disposed in a center of the oval arrangement of the plurality of bias flow holes.

16. A patient interface as claimed in claim 15 additionally comprising a connector for connecting a gas supply conduit to the frame, the connector comprising an overmolded connector.

17. A patient interface as claimed in claim 15 additionally comprising at least a second rigid barb disposed on a side of the air supply aperture opposite from the at least one rigid barb.

18. A patient interface as claimed in claim 15 additionally comprising a rigid loop member overmolded to the air supply aperture, the at least one rigid barb extending from the rigid loop member.

19. A patient interface as claimed in claim 18 , additionally comprising at least a second rigid barb member extending from the rigid loop member.
