Abstract

Provided is a fenestration kit comprising a vinyl based welded fenestration chassis and chassis covers for covering the chassis inside surface, outside surface, or both. The kit may be a window sash frame kit, a door panel frame kit, a window frame kit, or a door frame kit. These kits will be referred to generally as fenestration frame kits. The chassis covers are provided with stops which cooperate with corresponding stops on the chassis frame to prevent relative longitudinal movement between the covers and the chassis. The chassis covers are provided with engagement members which cooperate with corresponding engagement members provided on the chassis to connect the covers to the chassis.

Claims (41)

1. A window sash or door panel kit comprising

a polymeric chassis having a given width and a given height, and comprising

a left chassis stile,

a right chassis stile,

a top chassis rail, and

a bottom chassis rail,

said chassis stiles and said chassis rails each having an exterior edge,

said chassis stiles and said chassis rails having the same cross sectional profile to the extent that they each have

an outside surface,

an inside surface with at least one longitudinally extending glazing ridge,

an interior surface with at least one longitudinally extending engagement member, and

an exterior surface with at least one longitudinally extending engagement member,

chassis stile covers each having a first end and at least one engagement member operable to engage at least one of said chassis stile longitudinally extending engagement members and support said chassis stile covers on said chassis stile interior or exterior surfaces;

chassis rail covers each having a first end and at least one engagement member operable to engage at least one of said chassis rail longitudinally extending engagement members and support said chassis rail covers on said chassis rail interior or exterior surfaces;

wherein said chassis stiles and said chassis rails are joined by welds at the corners of said sash,

wherein at least one of said chassis stile covers and said chassis rail covers has a stop member,

wherein at least one of said left chassis stile, said right chassis stile, said top chassis rail, and said bottom chassis rail has a stop member, and

wherein, when said at least one of said chassis stile covers and said chassis rail covers is supported on said at least one of said left chassis stile, said right chassis stile, said top chassis rail, and said bottom chassis rail, said stop members cooperate to prevent longitudinal movement between said at least one chassis cover and said at least one chassis rails and chassis stiles, in at least one direction, and

wherein, when said stop members cooperate to prevent longitudinal movement between said at least one chassis cover and said at least one chassis rails and chassis stiles, said first end of each of said chassis stile covers and said first end of each of said chassis rail covers is aligned with said exterior edge of said at least one of said left chassis stile, said right chassis stile, said top chassis rail, and said bottom chassis rail, respectively.

2. The kit claimed in claim 1 wherein at least one of said chassis stile covers is shorter than the height of said window sash chassis.

3. The kit claimed in claim 1 wherein at least one of said chassis rail covers is shorter than the width of said window sash chassis.

4. A window or door frame sash kit or a door panel kit, said kit comprising

a polymeric frame chassis having a given width and a given height, and comprising

a left chassis jamb,

a right chassis jamb,

a top chassis head, and

a bottom chassis sill,

said chassis jambs, said chassis head, and said chassis sill each having an exterior edge,

said chassis jambs, chassis head, and said chassis sill having the same cross sectional profile to the extent that they each have

an outside surface with at least one engagement member,

an inside surface with at least one longitudinally extending ridge,

an interior surface with at least one longitudinally extending engagement member, and

an exterior surface with at least one longitudinally extending engagement member;

chassis jamb covers each having a first end and at least one engagement member operable to engage at least one of said chassis jamb longitudinally extending engagement members and support said chassis jamb covers on said chassis jamb interior or exterior surfaces;

a chassis head cover having at least one engagement member operable to engage at least one of said chassis jamb longitudinally extending engagement members and support said chassis head cover on said chassis head interior or exterior surface, and

a chassis sill cover having at least one engagement member operable to engage said chassis sill longitudinally extending engagement member and support said chassis sill cover on said chassis sill interior or exterior surface,

wherein said chassis jambs, said chassis head, and said chassis sill are joined by welds at the corners of said sash,

wherein at least one of said chassis jamb covers, said chassis head cover, and said chassis sill cover has a stop member,

wherein at least one of said left chassis jamb, said right chassis jamb, said top chassis head, and said bottom chassis sill has a stop member,

wherein, when said at least one of said chassis jamb covers, said chassis head cover, and said chassis sill cover is supported on said at least one of said left chassis jamb, said right chassis jamb, said top chassis head, and said bottom chassis sill, said stop members cooperate to prevent longitudinal movement between said at least one chassis cover and said at least one of said chassis jambs, said top chassis head, and said bottom chassis sill, in at least one direction, and

wherein, when said stop members cooperate to prevent longitudinal movement between said at least one of said chassis jamb covers, said chassis head cover, and said chassis sill cover, on the one hand, and said at least one of said left chassis jamb, said right chassis jamb, said top chassis head, and said bottom chassis sill, on the other hand, each of said first ends of each of said left chassis jamb cover, said right chassis jamb cover, said top chassis head cover, and said bottom chassis sill cover is aligned with said exterior edge of said chassis jambs, said top chassis head, and said bottom chassis sill, respectively.
