Abstract

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for managing resources of a mobile device based on a state of the device. In certain embodiments, systems and methods disclosed herein may adjust utilization of one more device systems and/or sensors based on a state of a device to better utilize device power or other resources. In further embodiments, systems and methods disclosed herein may utilize one or more power-efficient systems to determine when a device is in a transitory state and to schedule precise location determination events at times when the device is more likely to be located at a point of interest.

12 . A method performed by a mobile device comprising a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the mobile device to perform the method, the method comprising:

receiving first information from a first system of the mobile device generated as a result of a first polling event performed by the first system;

identifying, based on the first device information, a state of the mobile device;

scheduling a second polling event by a second system of the mobile device at a time based on the identified state of the mobile device and a relative distance between a location associated with the mobile device and one or more points of interest, the second system being different than the first system; and

performing the second polling event by the second system at the scheduled time.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first system comprises a location sensor and the first information comprises location information indicative of the location associated with the mobile device.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the identified state of the mobile device comprises a state associated with the location associated with the mobile device.

15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the identified state of the mobile device comprises a transitory state.

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the identified state of the mobile device comprises a stationary state.

17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the identified state of the mobile device is associated with an activity state of the mobile device.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the activity state of the mobile device comprises a state of at least one application executing on the mobile device.

19 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first system comprises a more power efficient system than the second system.

20 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first system comprises a first location sensor and the second system comprises a second location sensor that is less precise than the first location sensor.

21 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first information comprises device location coordinate information.

22 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first information comprises information indicating that the mobile device has changed location.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the mobile device comprises a cellular device and the first information comprises information indicating that the mobile device has transitioned between different cellular transmission systems.

24 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the scheduled time is further based on historic location-based usage information relating to the mobile device.

25 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first system comprises at least one of a Global Positioning System sensor system, a gyroscope sensor system, a proximity sensor system, a magnetometer system, a camera system, and a wireless communication system.

26 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second system comprises at least one of a Global Positioning System sensor system, a gyroscope sensor system, a proximity sensor system, a magnetometer system, a camera system, and a wireless communication system.

27 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first system comprises an interface system of the mobile device and the first information is generated based on user interaction with the interface system.

28 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the scheduled time is further based on a polling rate of the second system associated with the identified state.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the polling rate is based on a determined distance between the mobile device and the one or more points of interest being within a threshold distance.

30 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second system comprises a location sensor and the scheduled time is further based on an accuracy of the second system.

31 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the method further comprises transmitting the identified state information to a content service system.
