Selective catalytic dehydrochlorination of hydrochlorofluorocarbons
A dehydrochlorination process is disclosed. The process involves contacting R f CHClCH 2 Cl with a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst in a reaction zone to produce a product mixture comprising R f CCl═CH 2 , wherein R f is a perfluorinated alkyl group.
1. A composition comprising R f CHClCH 2 Cl and a dehydrochiorination catalyst having the formula Cr 2 O x F y , wherein x+y/2=3, wherein R f is a perfluorination alkyl group.
2. The composition according to claim 1 wherein R f is CF 3 or ClF 2 CF 3 .
3. The composition according to claim 1 wherein HF is additionally present.
4. The composition according to claim 3 wherein the mole ratio of HF to R 1 CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to about 50:1.
5. The composition according to claim 4 wherein the mole ratio HF to R 1 CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 5:1 to about 25:1.
6. The composition according to claim 4 wherein the mole ratio HF to R f CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to no more than 0.9:1.
7. The composition according to claim 4 wherein the mole ratio HF to R f CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to no more than 0.5:1.
8. The composition according to claim 4 wherein the mole ratio HF to R f CHClCH 2 Cl is 0.1:1.
9. The composition according to claim 1 wherein an inert gas is additionally present.
10. The composition according to claim 3 wherein an inert gas is additionally present.
11. The composition according to claim 1 wherein R f CCl═CH 2 is additionally present.
12. The composition according to claim 11 wherein R f CH═CHCl is additionally present.
13. The composition according to claim 4 wherein R f is CF 3 or CF 2 CF 3 .
14. The composition according to claim 11 wherein R f is CF 3 or CF 2 CF 3 .
15. The composition according to claim 11 , wherein R f CCl═CH 2 is 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.
16. The composition according to claim 1 wherein R f CHClCH 2 CL is CF 3 CHCLCH 2 CL.
17. The composition according to claim 16 wherein HF is additionally present and wherien the mole ratio of HF to CF 3 CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to about 50:1.
18. The composition according to claim 17 wherein the mole ratio of HF to CF 3 CHClCh 2 Cl ranges from about 5:1 to about 25:1.
19. The composition according to claim 17 wherein the mole ratio of HF to CF 3 CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to no more than 0.9:1.
20. The composition according to claim 17 where the mole ratio of HF to CF 3 CHClCH 2 Cl ranges from about 0.1:1 to no more than 0.5:1.
21. The composition according to claim 17 wherein the mole ratio of HF to CF 3 CHClCH 2 Cl is 0.1:1.
