Abstract

There may be situations in which it is beneficial for a user equipment to switch between grant-free uplink wireless transmissions and grant-based uplink wireless transmissions. Systems and methods are disclosed that help facilitate grant-based and grant-free uplink wireless communications, and the switching between the two. For example, systems and methods for mitigating collision between a granted uplink wireless transmission and a grant-free uplink wireless transmission are disclosed herein.

Claims (39)

1. A method performed by a base station comprising:

configuring a grant-free uplink resource using radio resource control (RRC) signaling without downlink control information (DCI) activation signaling;

receiving a grant-free uplink transmission of data from a user equipment on the grant-free uplink resource;

in response to receiving the grant-free uplink transmission of the data, generating a scheduling grant for the user equipment, the scheduling grant scheduling a retransmission of the data received in the grant-free uplink transmission;

transmitting the scheduling grant to at least the user equipment;

receiving the retransmission that was scheduled by the scheduling grant, and performing decoding by soft-combining the retransmission and the grant-free uplink transmission.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the grant-free uplink transmission includes an indicator.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station, and the indicator indicates that the additional data is low latency data.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the scheduling grant is generated in response to unsuccessfully decoding the data in the grant-free uplink transmission.

6. A base station comprising:

a transmitter to transmit signaling to a user equipment, the signaling configuring a grant-free uplink resource using radio resource control (RRC) signaling without downlink control information (DCI) activation signaling;

a receiver to receive a grant-free uplink transmission of data from the user equipment on the grant-free uplink resource;

a resource allocator to, in response to receiving the grant-free uplink transmission of the data, generate a scheduling grant for the user equipment, the scheduling grant scheduling a retransmission of the data received in the grant-free uplink transmission;

the transmitter further to transmit the scheduling grant to at least the user equipment;

the receiver further to: receive the retransmission that was scheduled by the scheduling grant;

a message decoder to perform decoding by soft-combining the retransmission and the grant-free uplink transmission.

7. The base station of claim 6 , wherein the grant-free uplink transmission includes an indicator.

8. The base station of claim 7 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station.

9. The base station of claim 7 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station, and the indicator indicates that the additional data is low latency data.

10. The base station of claim 6 , wherein the scheduling grant is generated in response to unsuccessful decoding of the data in the grant-free uplink transmission.

11. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) comprising:

receiving a configuration of a grant-free uplink resource via radio resource control (RRC) signaling without downlink control information (DCI) activation signaling;

sending a grant-free uplink transmission of data to a base station on the grant-free uplink resource;

in response to sending the grant-free uplink transmission of the data, receiving a scheduling grant from the base station, the scheduling grant scheduling a retransmission of the data sent in the grant-free uplink transmission;

sending the retransmission of the data to the base station according to the scheduling grant, the retransmission for soft-combining with the grant-free uplink transmission.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the scheduling grant also schedules additional data that is not a retransmission of the data sent in the grant-free uplink transmission.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the grant-free uplink transmission includes an indicator.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station, and the indicator indicates that the additional data is low latency data.

16. A user equipment (UE) comprising:

a receiver to receive signaling, the signaling configuring a grant-free uplink resource via radio resource control (RRC) signaling without downlink control information (DCI) activation signaling;

a transmitter to send a grant-free uplink transmission of data to a base station on the grant-free uplink resource;

the receiver further to receive a scheduling grant that is sent from the base station in response to the grant-free uplink transmission of the data, the scheduling grant scheduling a retransmission of the data sent in the grant-free uplink transmission;

the transmitter further to send the retransmission of the data to the base station according to the scheduling grant, the retransmission for soft-combining with the grant-free uplink transmission.

17. The UE of claim 16 , wherein the scheduling grant also schedules additional data that is not a retransmission of the data sent in the grant-free uplink transmission.

18. The UE of claim 16 , wherein the grant-free uplink transmission includes an indicator.

19. The UE of claim 18 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station.

20. The UE of claim 18 , wherein the indicator indicates that the user equipment has additional data to send to the base station, and the indicator indicates that the additional data is low latency data.
