Abstract

A frame is configured to rest on a support surface and an infant-receiving receptacle is supported above the support surface by the frame. The infant-receiving receptacle includes a bottom/floor panel forming a bed for the child to sleep upon and a peripheral sidewall surrounding the bottom panel and extending between the bottom panel and the frame. The bassinet includes a depth-adjustment mechanism that enables a caregiver to selectively adjust the depth of the infant-receiving receptacle by raising or lowering the bottom panel of the infant-receiving receptacle. Various embodiments can also include wheels, rollers, or other mechanisms for rolling, sliding, or gliding the bassinet across the support surface. Some embodiments include a height-adjustment mechanism, downward-recessed front wall, longitudinal-axis folding canopy, inverted-eggcrate bed pad, and/or base-positioned foot rest.

Claims (25)

1. A bassinet comprising:

a support frame comprising a base having a front and rear side and a plurality of legs extending upwardly from the rear side of the base; and

a child-receiving portion supported by the legs of the support frame to define an open space between the front side of the base and the child-receiving portion, the child-receiving portion comprising an upper frame member, a floor for supporting a child within the child-receiving portion spaced apart from the upper frame member by a depth which is adjustable from about 12″ between the floor and the upper frame member and about 21″ between the floor and the upper frame member, and a sidewall extending between the upper frame member and the floor;

the plurality of legs of the support frame allowing adjustment of a height at which the child-receiving portion is supported above the base.

2. The bassinet of claim 1 , the at least one sidewall of the child-receiving portion comprising a flexible fabric material.

3. The bassinet of claim 2 , the flexible fabric material including a section of mesh fabric.

4. The bassinet of claim 2 , the child-receiving portion further comprising an adjustable frame member that is repositionable relative to the upper frame member, and the flexible fabric material of the at least one sidewall of the child-receiving portion having an upper portion attached to the upper frame member and a lower portion supported by the adjustable frame member.

5. The bassinet of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of wheels coupled to the support frame.

6. The bassinet of claim 1 , the upper frame member of the child-receiving portion coupled to upper ends of the plurality of legs of the support frame.

7. The bassinet of claim 1 , the support frame comprising a base having a front side and a rear side, the support frame further comprising a pair of legs extending upwardly from the rear side of the base and having upper ends supporting the child-receiving portion, to define an open space between the front side of the base and the child-receiving portion.

8. The bassinet of claim 7 , the open space defined between the front side of the base and the child-receiving portion allowing the bassinet to be positioned with the base at least partially beneath a bed and the child-receiving portion supported at least partially over the bed.

9. The bassinet of claim 1 , further comprising a valance attached to the upper frame member of the child-receiving portion.

10. The bassinet of claim 1 , the child-receiving portion pivotally coupled to the support frame.

11. A bassinet comprising:

a support frame comprising a base and a plurality of legs extending upwardly from the base; and

a child-receiving portion supported by the legs of the support frame, the child-receiving portion comprising an upper frame member, a floor, and a sidewall comprising a flexible fabric material, the sidewall attached to the upper frame member and supporting the floor of the child-receiving portion;

wherein the plurality of legs of the support frame allowing adjustment of a height at which the child-receiving portion is supported above the base; and

wherein the depth of the child-receiving portion is adjustable to between about 12″ and about 21″.

12. The bassinet of claim 11 , the child-receiving portion further comprising an adjustable frame member that is repositionable relative to the upper frame member, and the flexible fabric material of the sidewall of the child-receiving portion having an upper portion attached to the upper frame member and a lower portion supported by the adjustable frame member.

13. The bassinet of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of wheels coupled to the support frame.

14. The bassinet of claim 11 , the upper frame member of the child-receiving portion coupled to upper ends of the plurality of legs of the support frame.

15. The bassinet of claim 11 , the height of the child-receiving portion adjustable to between about 29″ and about 34″ above an underlying support surface.

16. The bassinet of claim 11 , the flexible fabric material including a section of mesh fabric.

17. The bassinet of claim 11 , further comprising a valance attached to the upper frame member of the child-receiving portion.

18. The bassinet of claim 11 , the child-receiving portion pivotally coupled to the support frame.
