Abstract

Systems, apparatuses and methods provide for detecting the proximate placement of an external NFC reader to a specific location on a display surface. The display surface can be intended for viewing indicia and enabling interaction with an NFC communication device embedded within the display. A circuit can control an NFC security system that can scan for unauthorized tags affixed to the surface of a display. The NFC security system may be activated by an NFC enabled mobile phone placed proximate to the indicated region for receiving an NFC coded message from the display. An NFC security scan can be performed prior to the mobile phone reading the message from the intended NFC tag in the display. Enabling interactive display modes can allow for making selections indicated on the display or detecting motion gestures across the face of the display.

Claims (23)

1. A NFC detector, for use with an advertising display, comprising:

a counter circuit;

an inductive coil; and

wherein the counter circuit records a number of instances that an external NFC reader is placed proximate to the display holding the inductive coil.

2. The NFC detector of claim 1 , further comprising an NFC security system or an interactive display system.

3. The NFC detector of claim 1 , wherein the inductive coil comprises impedance matching circuits.

4. The NFC detector of claim 1 , wherein the inductive coil distributes magnetic energy over a surface of the display.

5. The NFC detector of claim 1 , wherein the detector further comprises a security controller.

6. The NFC detector of claim 5 , wherein the security controller does not perform interrogation on a constant basis.

7. The NFC detector of claim 5 , wherein the security controller activates reading conditionally upon a state of a signal line.

8. The NFC detector of claim 1 , further comprising a threshold detector.

9. The NFC detector of claim 1 , further comprising an RF demodulator.

10. The NFC detector of claim 1 where the inductive coil includes a distributed inductor adapted to be receptive to alternating magnetic fields in a vicinity of the inductive coil.

11. The detector of claim 2 , where the interactive display system may operate from battery power instead of a main connection.

12. The detector of claim 2 , where the display is capable of detecting a user's movement of the external NFC reader and generates a message for a user.

13. The detector of claim 3 , where the impedance matching element is a capacitor.

14. The detector of claim 2 , where the inductive coil further comprises a common element to both the detector and the security system such that the common element is a common coil.

15. The detector of claim 9 , where the RF demodulator is a diode envelope detector.

16. The detector of claim 5 , where the security controller activates reading of an NFC tag on regular intervals.

17. The detector of claim 8 , where the threshold detector generates energy to interrogate NFC tags in the NFC reader proximity.

18. The detector of claim 8 , where the threshold detector drives a two state output signal, in a “disabled” state, to an “enabled” state when an output voltage from a demodulator exceeds the “enabled” or a high threshold voltage point.

19. The detector of claim 8 , where an output state of the threshold detector may not oscillate if an input voltage from a control line oscillates around either the enabled or disabled voltage threshold point.

20. The detector of claim 2 , where the interactive display system operates from battery power as backup power.
