MULTI-SERVICES APPLICATION GATEWAY AND SYSTEM EMPLOYING THE SAME
An intelligent gateway device provided at a premise (home or business) for providing and managing application services associated with use and support of a plurality of digital endpoint devices associated with the premises. The device includes a communications and processing infrastructure integrated with a peer and presence messaging based communications protocol for enabling communications between the device and an external support network and between the device and connected digital endpoint devices. A services framework at the gateway device implements the communications and processing infrastructure for enabling service management, service configuration, and authentication of user of services at the intelligent gateway. The framework provides a storage and execution environment for supporting and executing received service logic modules relating to use, management, and support of the digital endpoint devices. Thus, the gateway device provides a network-based services point of presence for a plurality of digital endpoint devices at the premises.

43 . An application gateway device locatable at a user premises having one or more endpoint devices, comprising:
at least one processor;
at least one data communication interface providing wide area network and local area network access including wireless access via a wireless communications module;
a storage device coupled to the at least one processor, wherein the storage device is configured to store endpoint data associated at least with (a) actions of an application gateway user and (b) the one or more endpoint devices; and
an application services layer module coupled to the storage device and including logic executable by the at least one processor and controllable by a services management center, said application services layer module providing the capability for the application gateway user to: store personal e-health information on the application gateway, selectively invite another user or group of users to access the personal e-health information from the application gateway via a remote wide area network connection, provide secure access and authentication credentials to the another user or group of users, enable the first gateway user to control a type and amount of the personal e-health information the another user or group of users can access, and revoke the authentication credentials of the another user or group of users and disallow access to the personal e-health information, wherein the gateway device has access to a personal correlation and causation engine (PCCE) adapted for formulating metadata tokens representing actions, trends, and preferences of the another user or group of users and further optimized to consult with an index of values accessible from at least one of the services management center, external platforms, and the gateway device to solicit at least one response that enables the gateway device to send context sensitive messages and media including video to users of the gateway device via the external platforms or provide context sensitive action to users from the gateway device via the external platforms, wherein the application services layer module is configured to process the stored endpoint data and personal e-health information to dynamically generate a plurality of rules stored locally on the gateway device.

The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE provides token to applications including at least one of: financial objectives, health/medical objectives, exercise objectives, nutrition objectives, advertising objectives, home security objectives, purchasing objectives, and energy conservation objectives.
45 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein the metadata tokens represent actions, events, environmental trends, and user preferences.
46 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE includes access to an application for at least one of collecting and receiving events.

The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE has access to at least one of: trending data; user preferences that are based upon settings; user preferences that are based upon correlated behavior; user profile information; user contacts; user interests; and user objectives.
48 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE maintains at least one instance of said token segments for each user within the user premise and one instance for a household.
49 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE includes a capability of contacting user social media contacts and offering the contacts incentives to positively influence the user's behavior, wherein the incentives are also based upon profile information of the social media contacts.

The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE determines platforms for the application gateway to direct tokens to, token customization, token routing via interfaces and platforms, receives and interprets responses, and invokes events for one or more application interface on the gateway device.
51 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE provides a capability to enable a user to export data to a storage device.
52 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein access to the PCCE provides the capability to avoid disclosing the explicit identity of the user.
53 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein the metadata tokens represent data from one or more applications, and the metadata tokens are presented to one or more rule-based application platforms.
54 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein the video media and context sensitive messaging are sent to the another user or group of users as a primary interaction at a first endpoint, and the another user or group of users are prompted to enable a plurality of supplemental interactions at a second endpoint, and wherein the gateway is enabled to store records of the primary interaction and the supplemental interactions for a selected period of time.
55 . The application gateway device of claim 43 , wherein the storage device is further configured to store a reporting module for generating an operating report based on the stored endpoint data and personal e-health information, and wherein the operating report is provided to a remote management application.
56 . A system at a user premises, comprising:
at least one processor;
a gateway device including an application service layer module having at least one application, the application service module residing on a user premises side of a network service provider demarcation;
at least one data communication interface including wired and wireless communications providing wide area network and local area network access;
a user module having a user interface that is associated with the at least one application, wherein the user module enables bi-directional communications between the gateway device and at least one media player device and a network module having the connection that enables bi-directional communications with a remote service manager; and
the application services layer module further including logic executable by the at least one processor and controllable by the remote service manager, said application services layer module providing the capability for an application gateway user to: store personal e-health information on the application gateway, selectively invite another user or group of users to access the personal e-health information from the application gateway via a remote wide area network connection, provide secure access and authentication credentials to the another user or group of users, enable the first gateway user to control a type and amount of the personal e-health information the another user or group of users can access, and revoke the authentication credentials of the another user or group of users and disallow access to the personal e-health information, wherein the gateway device has access to a personal causation and correlation engine (PCCE) adapted for formulating metadata tokens representing action, trends, and preferences of the another user or group of users and further optimized to consult with an index of values accessible from at least one of the remote service manager, external platforms, and the gateway device to solicit one or more responses that enable the gateway device to send context sensitive messages to users of the gateway device via the external platforms or provide context sensitive action to users from the gateway device via the external platforms.

The system of claim 56 , wherein the PCCE provides token for applications including at least one of: financial objectives, health/medical objectives, exercise objectives, nutrition objectives, advertising objectives, home security objectives, purchasing objectives, and energy conservation objectives.
58 . The system of claim 56 , wherein access to the PCCE includes access to an application for at least one of collecting and receiving events.
59 . The system of claim 56 , wherein access to the PCCE determines platforms for the application gateway to direct tokens to, token customization, token routing via interfaces and platforms, receives and interprets responses, and invokes events for one or more application interface on the gateway device.

The system of claim 56 , wherein the index of values is stored as xml data and contains a category including shopping, a primary sub-category including women's apparel, and a secondary sub-category including shoes, and wherein each category, primary sub-category and secondary sub-category are automatically updated as new data is retrieved by the gateway.
61 . A method of enabling personal causation and correlation activity using a multimedia system located at a user premises, comprising:
providing at least one processor and a gateway device including an application service layer module having at least one application, the application service module residing on a user premises side of a network service provider demarcation and further including logic executable by the at least one processor and controllable by the remote service manager, said application services layer module providing the capability for an application gateway user to: store personal e-health information on the application gateway, selectively invite another user or group of users to access the personal e-health information from the application gateway via a remote wide area network connection, provide secure access and authentication credentials to the another user or group of users, enable the first gateway user to control a type and amount of the personal e-health information the another user or group of users can access, and revoke the authentication credentials of the another user or group of users and disallow access to the personal e-health information, wherein the gateway device has access to a personal causation and correlation engine (PCCE) accessible for formulating metadata tokens representing action, trends, and preferences of the another group of users and further optimized to consult with an index of values accessible from at least one of the remote service manager, external platforms, and the gateway device to solicit at least one response that enables the gateway device to send context sensitive messages to users of the gateway device via the external platforms or provide context sensitive action to users from the gateway device via the external platforms;
providing at least one data communication interface including wired and wireless data communications for providing wide area network and local area network access;
providing a user module having a user interface that is associated with the at least one application, wherein the user module enables bi-directional communications between the gateway device and at least one media player device and a network module having the connection that enables bi-directional communications with a remote service manager; and
providing a token obtained from the PCCE to a user of the at least one media player device for applications including at least one of: financial objectives, health/medical objectives, exercise objectives, nutrition objectives, advertising objectives, home security objectives, purchasing objectives, and energy conservation objectives.
62 . The method of claim 61 , wherein the metadata tokens represent actions, environmental trends, and user preferences.
63 . The method of claim 61 , wherein access to the PCCE provides a capability to enable a user to export data to a storage device.
64 . The method of claim 61 , wherein access to the PCCE provides a capability to cache or store received messaging and present to a device screen at a later time.
65 . The method of claim 61 , wherein the PCCE provides the capability to avoid disclosing the explicit identity of the user.
