Abstract

The present disclosure is drawn to a method of treating a patient in need of treatment, comprising identifying a patient in need of treatment for stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, myocardial infarction, shock, organ ischemia, ventricular arrhythmias, ischemic injury, or hypoxia/ischemia; administering a bolus of glyburide to the patient; and administering a continuous infusion of glyburide to the patient at from about 15 μg/hr and about 300 μg/hr, wherein the continuous infusion glyburide is administered for a period of time more than about 20 hours.

Claims (6)

1. A method for achieving a less than 10% reduction of the concentration of glyburide solutions placed in a container, tube, and/or filter of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), comprising contacting said PVC container, tube, and/or filter with a glyburide flushing solution, wherein said glyburide flushing solution has a glyburide concentration of at least 2 μg/mL of glyburide, flushing said glyburide flushing solution out of said PVC container, tube, and/or filter, and, after said flushing, refilling said PVC container, tube, and/or filter with a therapeutic glyburide solution, thereby reducing adsorption of the therapeutic glyburide solution to said PVC container, tube, and/or filter such that a less than 10% reduction in concentration of the therapeutic glyburide solution is achieved in said PVC container, tube, and/or filter.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said contacting comprises flushing said container, tube, and/or filter with at least 50 mL of said glyburide flushing solution.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the glyburide flushing solution comprises glyburide in a concentration of from about 2 μg/mL to about 8 μg/mL.

A method for minimizing a reduction of the concentration of glyburide solution placed in a PVC container, tube, and/or filter administering a glyburide therapeutic solution, comprising providing a PVC container, tube, and/or filter having a surface for contacting said glyburide solution that is made of a non-PVC material, contacting said glyburide therapeutic solution with said non-PVC material surface of said container, tube, and/or filter, wherein said glyburide solution has a glyburide concentration of between 0.5 mg/mL and 1 mg/mL and wherein said contacting does not reduce the concentration of the glyburide solution stored in the PVC container, tube, and/or filter by more than 10%.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said non-PVC material surface of said container, tube, and/or filter comprises polyethylene.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the container comprises a polyethylene-coated bag and the tubing comprises a polyethylene-coated tube.
