Abstract

Technology is provided for a device sled with an extension limit latch. The device sled includes a sled chassis having a bottom wall and a sidewall extending between a front sled portion and a rear sled portion. The extension limit latch includes a latch arm having a proximal end portion pivotably coupled to the sled chassis proximate the rear sled portion. A latch barb extends from the latch arm and a distal end portion of the arm includes an actuation tab. The latch arm is pivotable between a latched position where the latch barb is positioned to engage a latch feature of a cubby chassis, thereby preventing removal of the sled chassis from the cubby chassis, and an unlatched position where the latch barb is disengaged from the latch feature of the cubby chassis.

Claims (50)

1. A device sled comprising:

a sled chassis extending between a front sled portion and a rear sled portion and having a bottom wall and a sidewall, the sled chassis movable within a cubby chassis between a stowed position and an extended position; and

a latch arm comprising:

a proximal end portion movably coupled to the sidewall of the sled chassis proximate the rear sled portion; and

a latch member extending from the latch arm;

wherein the latch arm is movable between a latched position where the latch member is positioned to engage a latch feature formed in a top panel of the cubby chassis when the sled chassis is in the extended position thereby preventing removal of the sled chassis from the cubby chassis, and an unlatched position where the latch member is disengaged from the latch feature of the cubby chassis when the sled chassis is in the stowed position.

2. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein:

the latch arm further comprises a distal end portion having an actuation tab; and

the sled chassis further comprises a latch cover positioned on the sled chassis to cover the actuation tab thereby preventing a user from moving the latch arm from the latched position to the unlatched position without the use of a tool.

3. The device sled of claim 2 , wherein the actuation tab includes a notch sized to receive the tool between the actuation tab and the latch cover, and not to receive a finger of the user.

4. The device sled of claim 1 , further comprising a resilient member positioned between the latch arm and the sled chassis to urge the latch arm toward the latched position.

5. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein the latch member extends from a midportion of the latch arm.

6. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein the proximal end portion is pivotably coupled to the sidewall.

7. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein the latch member comprises a latch barb that extends from a mid-portion of the latch arm.

8. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein the proximal end portion of the latch arm comprises a pivot aperture for pivotably coupling the latch arm to the sled chassis.

9. The device sled of claim 1 , further comprising a latch handle coupled to the sled chassis proximate the front sled portion, wherein:

the latch handle is movable between a latched position and an unlatched position; and

the latch handle, when in the latched position, latches the sled chassis in the stowed position.

10. The device sled of claim 1 , wherein:

a mid-portion of the latch arm comprises a spring notch; and

the spring notch is coupled to a torsion spring and holds the torsion spring in position.

11. A system comprising:

a cubby chassis comprising a top panel;

a sled chassis extending between a front sled portion and a rear sled portion and having a bottom wall and a sidewall, the sled chassis movable within the cubby chassis between a stowed position and an extended position; and

a latch arm comprising:

a proximal end portion movably coupled to the sidewall of the sled chassis proximate the rear sled portion; and

a latch member extending from the latch arm;

wherein the latch arm is movable between a latched position where the latch member is positioned to engage a latch feature formed in the top panel of the cubby chassis when the sled chassis is in the extended position thereby preventing removal of the sled chassis from the cubby chassis, and an unlatched position where the latch member is disengaged from the latch feature of the cubby chassis when the sled chassis is in the stowed position.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the cubby chassis further comprises one or more chassis partitions defining a plurality of sled positions,, each sled position has an associated latch feature formed in the top panel of the cubby chassis, the sled chassis is positioned within a sled position of the plurality of sled positions, and the associated latch feature of the sled position of the plurality of sled positions comprises the latch feature.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein:

the latch member comprises a barb; and

the latch feature comprises a barb aperture.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the proximal end portion of the latch arm comprises a pivot aperture for pivotably coupling the latch arm to the sled chassis.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein a mid-portion of the latch arm comprises a spring notch.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the spring notch is coupled to a torsion spring and holds the torsion spring in position.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the latch arm further comprises a distal end portion having an actuation tab; and

the sled chassis further comprises a latch cover positioned on the sled chassis to cover the actuation tab thereby preventing a user from moving the latch arm from the latched position to the unlatched position without the use of a tool.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the actuation tab includes a notch sized to receive the tool between the actuation tab and the latch cover.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the notch is sized not to receive a finger of the user.

20. A device platform comprising:

a cubby chassis comprising:

a top panel; and

a chassis partition defining a sled position within the cubby chassis, the sled position having a latch feature formed in the top panel;

a sled chassis extending between a front sled portion and a rear sled portion and having a bottom wall and a sidewall, the sled chassis positioned within the sled position, and movable between a stowed position and an extended position; and

a latch arm comprising:

a proximal end portion movably coupled to the sidewall of the sled chassis proximate the rear sled portion; and

a latch member extending from the latch arm;

wherein the latch arm is movable between a latched position where the latch member is positioned to engage the latch feature when the sled chassis is in the extended position thereby preventing removal of the sled chassis from the cubby chassis, and an unlatched position where the latch member is disengaged from the latch feature when the sled chassis is in the stowed position.
