Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for an apparatus and method for practicing injection techniques through an injectable apparatus. The injectable apparatus may contain a camera that is configured to provide three-dimensional location information for a testing tool based on light attenuated from the testing tool after it is injected into a simulated human or animal body parts. A training tool may be connected to a user display device to generate a display of the injection apparatus as well as the performance parameters of a trainee.

Claims (19)

1 - 22 . (canceled)

23 . A method of three-dimensional (3D) injection training, the method comprising:

calibrating at least one of a light source in a testing tool and a three-dimensional tracking system, the testing tool being configured to simulate an injection;

detecting, by the three-dimensional tracking system, a characteristic of light emitted from the light source during the simulated injection; and

generating three-dimensional location information of the light source based on the detected characteristic and said calibrating.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein said calibrating comprises obtaining calibration information from a memory.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said calibrating comprises:

receiving, at the three-dimensional tracking system, light from the light source from a predetermined location;

generating calibration information; and

storing said calibration information in a memory.

26 . The method of claim 23 , wherein said detecting comprises receiving a plurality of measurements from an array of light sensors included in the three-dimensional tracking system.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said detecting is based on which sensors in the array of sensors received measurable light.

28 . The method of claim 23 , wherein said characteristic of the light emitted comprises intensity, angle, dispersion, brightness, color, or duration of the light.

29 . The method of claim 23 , further comprising:

obtaining a three-dimensional model of a site for the injection; and

generating an injection training result based on the location information for the light and the three-dimensional model of the site.

30 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the injection training results includes an animated depiction of the injection at the site.

31 . The method of claim 30 , further comprising receiving a display point of view, the display point of view identifying a virtual location in space from which to view the animated depiction, and wherein said generating the injection training result is further based on the display point of view.

32 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising detecting a plurality of locations for the injection over time, and wherein said generating the injection training result includes generating a trajectory path for the injection.
