Abstract

Embodiments of an eNB to operate in accordance with a coverage enhancement mode are disclosed herein. The eNB may comprise hardware processing circuitry to, during a legacy sub-frame, transmit a system information block (SIB) in legacy SIB frequency resources according to a legacy SIB transmission format and refrain from transmission of channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS). The hardware processing circuitry may be further to, during a first coverage enhancement sub-frame, transmit a first portion of the SIB in first SIB frequency resources included in the legacy SIB frequency resources. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to, during a first coverage enhancement sub-frame, transmit a first set of CSI-RS in first CSI-RS frequency resources that include at least a portion of the legacy SIB frequency resources.

Claims (41)

1. An apparatus of an Evolved Node-B (eNB), the apparatus comprising: processing circuitry, configured to:

determine a plurality of mapped resource elements of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), for transmission of a system information block (SIB) to a user equipment (UE) configured for enhanced coverage, the mapped resource elements to repeat periodically in sets of frames, wherein one or more channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) occupies one or more of the mapped resource elements; and

configure the eNB to transmit, during an enhanced coverage sub-frame, the SIB within the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

memory, configured to store data of the SIB.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of the CSI-RS within resource elements of the enhanced coverage sub-frame.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of a CSI-RS in a subframe where transmission of the CSI-RS would collide with the SIB.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of a CSI-RS in a subframe configured for transmission of paging messages.

5. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to determine one or more resource elements of the plurality of mapped resource elements for transmission of the SIB according to a puncturing of the plurality of mapped resource elements by the CSI-RS.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a first portion of the SIB within the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a first set of CSI-RS within a portion of the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a second portion of the SIB to the UE within a second plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a second set of CSI-RS in within a portion of the second plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH, wherein the portion of the plurality of mapped resource elements for transmission of the first set of CSI-RS is excluded from the portion of the second plurality of mapped resource elements.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during a legacy sub-frame, a SIB in a third plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

refrain from transmission of a CSI-RS.

9. A computer-readable hardware storage device that stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of a station (STA), the instructions to configure the one or more processors to:

determine a plurality of mapped resource elements of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), for transmission of a system information block (SIB) to a user equipment (UE) configured for enhanced coverage, the mapped resource elements to repeat periodically in sets of frames, wherein one or more channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) occupies one or more of the mapped resource elements; and

configure the eNB to transmit, during an enhanced coverage sub-frame, the SIB within the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH.

10. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of the CSI-RS within resource elements of the enhanced coverage sub-frame.

11. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of a CSI-RS in a subframe where transmission of the CSI-RS would collide with the SIB.

12. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to refrain from transmission of a CSI-RS in a subframe configured for transmission of paging messages.

13. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to determine one or more resource elements of the plurality of mapped resource elements for transmission of the SIB according to a puncturing of the plurality of mapped resource elements by the CSI-RS.

14. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a first portion of the SIB within the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a first set of CSI-RS within a portion of the plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH.

15. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a second portion of the SIB to the UE within a second plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and

transmit, during the enhanced coverage sub-frame, a second set of CSI-RS in within a portion of the second plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH, wherein the portion of the plurality of mapped resource elements for transmission of the first set of CSI-RS is excluded from the portion of the second plurality of mapped resource elements.

16. The computer-readable hardware storage device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are further to configure the one or more processors to configure the eNB to:

transmit, during a legacy sub-frame, a SIB in a third plurality of mapped resource elements of the PDSCH; and
