Abstract

To provide a liquid crystal display device including a plurality of gate lines extending in a first direction; a plurality of source lines extending in a second direction; and a plurality of pixel areas each surrounded by the gate line and the source line, and arranged in a matrix, wherein each of the pixel areas includes a switching device connected through a contact hole to the source line, each of the plurality of pixel areas is assigned any of at least four colors, two colors out of the four colors are alternately arranged in a same column of the pixel areas, and the switching devices in the respective pixel areas for the two colors alternately arranged share the contact hole connected to the source line.

Claims (42)

1. A liquid crystal display device, comprising:

a plurality of gate lines extending in a first direction;

a plurality of source lines extending in a second direction; and

a plurality of pixel areas each surrounded by respective of the plurality of the gate lines and respective of the plurality of the source lines, and arranged in a matrix,

wherein

each of the pixel areas includes a switching device connected through a contact hole to the respective source line,

each of the plurality of pixel areas is assigned any of at least four colors,

two colors out of the four colors are alternately arranged in a same column of the pixel areas, and

the switching devices in the respective pixel areas for the two colors alternately arranged share the contact hole connected to the respective source line.

2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the four colors include red, green, blue, and white, and

the two colors alternately arranged in the same column of the pixel areas are blue and white.

3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 , wherein

the respective pixel areas for red and green are alternately disposed in the same column of the pixel areas, and

the pixel area for red is disposed adjacent to the pixel area for blue in a direction along a row of the pixel areas.

4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 , wherein

the pixel areas for red are disposed successively in a same column of the pixel areas, and

the pixel areas for green are disposed successively in a same column of the pixel areas.

5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 , wherein an area of the pixel area for blue is larger than an area of the pixel area for white.

6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , wherein

the area of the pixel area for blue is larger than an area of the pixel area for red or green, and

the area of the pixel area for white is smaller than the area of the pixel area for red or green.

7. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a plurality of first gate lines and a plurality of second gate lines extending along a first direction and alternately disposed in a second direction intersecting the first direction;

a first source line and a second source line extending along the second direction, and disposed adjacent to each other in the first direction;

a first pixel disposed in an area defined by the first gate line and the second gate line adjacent to each other and the first source line and the second source line adjacent to each other, and having a first switching device having a first semiconductor layer electrically connected to the first gate line and the second source line;

a second pixel disposed adjacent to the first pixel in the second direction and having a second switching device having a second semiconductor layer electrically connected to the second gate line and the second source line and having luminance smaller than luminance of the first pixel;

a first contact structure disposed on a side of the first pixel via the first gate line and electrically connecting the first semiconductor layer and the first gate line; and

a second contact structure disposed on the side of the first pixel via the second gate line and electrically connecting the second semiconductor layer and the second gate line,

wherein

the first semiconductor layer extends from the first contact structure, bends so as to intersect the first gate line at two positions, and further extends to the side of the first pixel along the second source line, and

the second semiconductor layer extends from the second contact structure, bends so as to intersect the second gate line at two positions, and further extends to the side of the first pixel along the second source line.

8. The liquid crystal display according to claim 7 , wherein the first semiconductor layer and the second semiconductor layer are electrically connected to the second source line through a common third contact structure.

9. The liquid crystal display according to claim 7 , wherein the first pixel is disposed each on each of both sides of the second pixel in the second direction.

10. The liquid crystal display according to claim 7 , further comprising:

a third source line disposed adjacent to the second source line in the first direction, and extending in the second direction; and

a third pixel having a third switching device having a third semiconductor layer electrically connected to the first gate line and the third source line, and disposed adjacent to the first pixel in the first direction and,

wherein

the first gate line is laid out so as to bend such that a width of the first pixel in the second direction is smaller than a width of the third pixel in the second direction.

11. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 7 , wherein

the first pixel is a pixel for white, and

the second pixel is a pixel for blue.
