Abstract

A coupon processing system may include a point-of-sale (POS) terminal at a retail location. The POS terminal may be configured to communicate instant redeemable coupon (IRC) data associated with a physical IRC for a given product. The coupon processing system may also include a promotions server remote from the retail location and cooperating with the POS terminal to redeem the physical IRC for the given product based upon the IRC data and assign a post-purchase coupon value to a digital wallet associated with a purchaser of the given product based upon redeeming of the physical IRC.

Claims (38)

1. A coupon processing system comprising:

a point-of-sale (POS) terminal at a retail location and for communicating instant redeemable coupon (IRC) data associated with a physical IRC for a given product; and

a promotions server remote from the retail location and cooperating with said POS terminal to

receive a purchaser identifier (ID),

redeem the physical IRC for the given product based upon the IRC data, and

assign a post-purchase coupon value to a digital wallet associated with a purchaser of the given product based upon the purchaser ID and redeeming of the physical IRC.

2. The coupon processing system of claim 1 further comprising a mobile wireless communications device associated with the purchaser and for communicating the purchaser ID to said promotions server.

3. The coupon processing system of claim 1 wherein said POS terminal is for accepting as input the purchaser ID and communicating the purchaser ID to said promotions server.

4. The coupon processing system of claim 1 wherein the purchaser ID comprises a telephone number associated with the purchaser.

5. The coupon processing system of claim 1 wherein said POS terminal is for optically scanning the physical IRC and communicating the IRC data based thereon.

6. The coupon processing system of claim 1 further comprising a mobile wireless communications device associated with the purchaser for optically scanning the physical IRC and communicating the IRC data to said POS terminal based thereon.

7. The coupon processing system of claim 1 wherein said promotions server is for assigning the post-purchase coupon value based upon closing of the purchase at the POS terminal.

8. The coupon processing system of claim 1 wherein said promotions server is for receiving product data for the given product from said POS terminal.

9. A promotions server for a coupon processing system comprising a point-of-sale (POS) terminal at a retail location and for communicating instant redeemable coupon (IRC) data associated with a physical IRC for a given product, the promotions server being remote from the retail location and comprising:

a memory; and

a processor cooperating with said memory and said POS terminal to

receive a purchaser identifier (ID),

redeem the physical IRC for the given product based upon the IRC data, and

assign a post-purchase coupon value to a digital wallet associated with a purchaser of the given product based upon the purchaser ID and redeeming of the physical IRC.

10. The promotions server of claim 9 wherein said processor is for receiving the purchaser ID from a mobile wireless communications device associated with the purchaser.

11. The promotions server of claim 9 wherein said processor is for receiving the purchaser ID from the POS terminal.

12. The promotions server of claim 9 wherein said processor is for assigning the post-purchase coupon value based upon closing of the purchase at the POS terminal.

13. The promotions server of claim 9 wherein said processor is for receiving product data for the given product from the POS terminal.

14. A method of processing a coupon comprising:

using a promotions server remote from a retail location to

receive a purchaser identifier (ID),

redeem a physical instant redeemable coupon (IRC) for a given product based upon IRC data associated with the physical IRC, the IRC data being received from a point-of-sale (POS) terminal at the retail location, and

assign a post-purchase coupon value to a digital wallet associated with a purchaser of the given product based upon the purchaser ID and redeeming of the physical IRC.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the promotions server is used to receive the purchaser ID from a mobile wireless communications device associated with the purchaser.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the promotions server is used to receive the purchaser ID from the POS terminal.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the promotions server is used to assign the post-purchase coupon value based upon closing of the purchase at the POS terminal.

18. The method of claim 14 wherein the promotions server is used to receive product data for the given product from the POS terminal.

19. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions that cause a processor of a promotions server remote from a retail location to perform operations comprising:

receiving a purchaser identifier (ID);

redeeming a physical instant redeemable coupon (IRC) for a given product based upon IRC data associated with the physical IRC, the IRC data being received from a point-of-sale (POS) terminal at the retail location; and

assigning a post-purchase coupon value to a digital wallet associated with a purchaser of the given product based upon the purchaser ID and redeeming of the physical IRC.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 wherein the operations comprise receiving the purchaser ID from a mobile wireless communications device associated with the purchaser.

21. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 wherein the operations comprise receiving the purchaser ID from the POS terminal.
