Abstract

Various embodiments for creating media clips are disclosed. In one example, a method is performed by a server for managing the creation and distribution of media clips, where the server associates a content capture device with an event, the content capture device for recording at least a portion of the event, receives a tag notification from a content tagging device via a network interface, generates a media clip creation command to the content capture device via the network interface, sends the media clip creation command to the content capture device, and receives a media clip created by the content capture device in response to receiving the media clip creation command.

1. A content capture device for creating and distributing media clips, comprising:

a network interface for sending and receiving digital information over a network;

a memory for storing processor-executable instructions and media footage; and

a processor coupled to the network interface and the memory, for executing processor-executable instructions that cause the content capture device to:

receive, by the processor via the network interface, a media clip creation command from a media clip server for the mobile device to create a media clip;

in response to receiving the request, create, by the processor, a media clip; and

transmit the media clip to the media clip server.

2. The content capture device of claim 1 , wherein the media clip is created from the media footage stored in the memory.

3. The content capture device of claim 1 , further comprising a digital camera, wherein the media clip is created from digital video received by the processor from the digital camera as the content capture device records an observable event.

4. The content capture device of claim 1 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises a clip creation time, and the processor-executable instructions that cause the content capture device to create the media clip comprises instructions that cause the content capture device to:

determine, by the processor, whether media footage is stored in the memory;

determine, by the processor, whether the media footage was recorded over a time period comprising the clip creation time; and

create, by the processor, the media clip from a portion of the media footage encompassing the clip creation time.

5. The content capture device of claim 1 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises a clip creation time and a clip duration time, and the processor-executable instructions that cause the content capture device to create the media clip comprises instructions that cause the content capture device to:

determine, by the processor, whether media footage is stored in the memory;

determine, by the processor, whether the media footage was recorded over a time period comprising the clip creation time; and

create, by the processor, the media clip from a portion of the media footage encompassing the clip creation time, the media clip comprising a duration equal to the clip duration time.

6. The content capture device of claim 1 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises an activity indicator of a desired activity, and the processor-executable instructions that cause the content capture device to create the media clip comprises instructions that cause the content capture device to:

determine, by the processor, whether media footage is stored in the memory;

determine, by the processor, whether the media footage has captured the desired activity; and

create, by the processor, the media clip from a portion of the media footage encompassing the desired activity.

7. The content capture device of claim 6 , wherein the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the content capture device to:

compare the desired activity to a table of media clip timing information stored in the memory, the table of media clip timing information comprising media clip creation timing information associated with a first activity;

determine, by the processor, that the desired activity matches the first activity; and

create, by the processor, the media clip in accordance with the media clip creation timing information of the first activity.

8. The content capture device of claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the content capture device to:

determine, by the processor, a location of the content capture device; and

transmit, by the processor via the network interface, the location to the media server;

wherein the media clip comprises footage of an event occurring at the location.

9. The content capture device of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface, wherein the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the content capture device to:

receive, by the processor via the user interface, event information identifying an event where the content capture device is located; and

transmit, by the processor via the network interface, the event information to the media server; and

wherein the media clip comprises footage of the event.

10. The content capture device of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface, wherein the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the content capture device to:

receive, by the processor via the user interface, additional information pertaining to an activity or an event associated with the media clip;

associate, by the processor, the additional information with the media clip; and

transmit, by the processor via the network interface, the additional information in association with the media clip.

11. A method, performed by a content capture device, for creating and distributing media clips, comprising:

receiving, by a processor via a network interface, a media clip creation command from a media clip server for the mobile device to create a media clip;

in response to receiving the request, creating, by the processor, a media clip; and

transmitting, by the processor via a transmitter, the media clip to the media clip server.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the media clip is created from the media footage stored in the memory.

13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

recording, by the processor via a digital camera, an event as the event occurs;

wherein the media clip is created from digital video received by the processor from the digital camera as the content capture device records the event.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises a clip creation time, and creating the media clip comprises:

determining, by the processor, whether media footage is stored in a memory;

determining, by the processor, whether the media footage was recorded over a time period comprising the clip creation time; and

creating, by the processor, the media clip from a portion of the media footage encompassing the clip creation time.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises a clip creation time, and creating the media clip comprises:

determining, by the processor, whether media footage is stored in the memory;

determining, by the processor, whether the media footage was recorded over a time period comprising the clip creation time; and

creating, by the processor, the media clip from a portion of the media footage encompassing the clip creation time, the media clip comprising a duration equal to the clip duration time.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the media clip creation command comprises an activity indicator of a desired activity, and creating the media clip comprises:
