Osteoclast inhibitors for joint conditions
View Patent ↗Oral dosage forms of osteoclast inhibitors, such as neridronic acid and zoledronic acid, in an acid or a salt form can be used to treat or alleviate pain or related conditions, such as joint pain.
1. A method of treating pain associated with a hip joint comprising:
a. selecting a patient having 1) pain associated with a hip joint and 2) a pain intensity of 5 or greater measured using the 0-10 numerical rating scale (NRS) or 5 cm or greater using the 10 cm visual analogue scale (VAS); and
b. administering neridronic acid to the patient.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 6 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 6 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 7 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 7 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered parenterally.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered at an interval of 2, 3, or 4 days.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered intravenously.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein a dose of about 100 mg of the neridronic acid is administered intravenously.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered daily.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered weekly.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered monthly.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief within about three months after the neridronic acid is administered.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief at least 24 hours after the neridronic acid is administered.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient is suffering from complex regional pain syndrome.
14. A method of treating pain associated with a hip joint comprising:
a. selecting a patient having 1) pain associated with a hip joint and 2) a pain intensity of 5 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 5 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS; and
b. orally administering neridronic acid to the patient.
15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 6 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 6 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.
16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 7 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 7 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.
17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered weekly.
18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered 2 or 3 times a month.
19. The method of claim 14 , wherein about 40 mg to about 60 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered to the patient once weekly.
20. The method of claim 14 , wherein about 40 mg to about 60 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered to the patient once weekly for 6 consecutive weeks.
21. The method of claim 14 , wherein 2 or 3 doses of the neridronic acid are orally administered within a month for a total of about 200 mg/m 2 to about 300 mg/m 2 of the neridronic acid.
22. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief within about 3 months after the neridronic acid is administered.
23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief at least 24 hours after the neridronic acid is administered.
24. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered in a dosage form containing the neridronic acid in a salt form.
25. The method of claim 24 , wherein a molar equivalent to about 50 mg to about 150 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered each week.
26. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient is suffering from complex regional pain syndrome.
27. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a tablet.
28. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a capsule.
29. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a pill.
30. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a troche.
