Claims (34)

1. A method of treating pain associated with a hip joint comprising:

a. selecting a patient having 1) pain associated with a hip joint and 2) a pain intensity of 5 or greater measured using the 0-10 numerical rating scale (NRS) or 5 cm or greater using the 10 cm visual analogue scale (VAS); and

b. administering neridronic acid to the patient.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 6 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 6 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 7 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 7 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered parenterally.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered at an interval of 2, 3, or 4 days.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered intravenously.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein a dose of about 100 mg of the neridronic acid is administered intravenously.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered daily.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered weekly.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered monthly.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief within about three months after the neridronic acid is administered.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief at least 24 hours after the neridronic acid is administered.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient is suffering from complex regional pain syndrome.

14. A method of treating pain associated with a hip joint comprising:

a. selecting a patient having 1) pain associated with a hip joint and 2) a pain intensity of 5 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 5 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS; and

b. orally administering neridronic acid to the patient.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 6 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 6 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient has a pain intensity of 7 or greater measured using the 0-10 NRS or 7 cm or greater using the 10 cm VAS.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered weekly.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered 2 or 3 times a month.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein about 40 mg to about 60 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered to the patient once weekly.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein about 40 mg to about 60 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered to the patient once weekly for 6 consecutive weeks.

21. The method of claim 14 , wherein 2 or 3 doses of the neridronic acid are orally administered within a month for a total of about 200 mg/m 2 to about 300 mg/m 2 of the neridronic acid.

22. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief within about 3 months after the neridronic acid is administered.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the patient experiences pain relief at least 24 hours after the neridronic acid is administered.

24. The method of claim 14 , wherein the neridronic acid is administered in a dosage form containing the neridronic acid in a salt form.

25. The method of claim 24 , wherein a molar equivalent to about 50 mg to about 150 mg of the neridronic acid is orally administered each week.

26. The method of claim 14 , wherein the patient is suffering from complex regional pain syndrome.

27. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a tablet.

28. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a capsule.

29. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a pill.

30. The method of claim 26 , wherein the neridronic acid is orally administered in a troche.
