Abstract

Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to perform device to device (D2D) discovery in a wireless network is described. The UE can decode D2D discovery parameters received from an eNodeB. The UE can determine a UE D2D discovery resource from the D2D discovery resource allocation based, in part, on the D2D discovery parameters. The UE can encode a D2D discovery message for transmission from the UE to a second UE using the UE D2D discovery resource in the D2D discovery resource allocation.

memory configured to store the D2D discovery parameters received from the eNodeB.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a transceiver configured to:

receive, at the UE, the D2D discovery parameters; and

transmit, from the UE, the D2D discovery message to a second UE using the UE D2D discovery resource in the D2D discovery resource allocation.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the N f associated with the D2D discovery parameters is different in a subsequent D2D discovery resource allocation for a second UE.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the N f parameter and the N t parameter associated with the D2D discovery parameters are received at the UE via higher layer signaling.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to monitor for D2D discovery messages transmitted from other UEs when the UE is not transmitting the D2D discovery message in accordance with a half-duplex constraint.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the UE includes an antenna, a touch sensitive display screen, a speaker, a microphone, a graphics processor, an application processor, an internal memory, a non-volatile memory port, or combinations thereof.

7. An apparatus of a user equipment (UE) operable to perform device to device (D2D) discovery in a wireless network, the apparatus comprising:

one or more processors configured to:

decode, at the UE, D2D discovery parameters received from an eNodeB;

determine, at the UE, a UE D2D discovery resource from the D2D discovery resource allocation based, in part, on the D2D discovery parameters, wherein the D2D discovery parameters are associated with a N t parameter, and the N t parameter is different in a subsequent D2D discovery resource allocation for the second UE; and

encode, at the UE, a D2D discovery message for transmission from the UE to a second UE using the UE D2D discovery resource in the D2D discovery resource allocation; and

memory configured to store the D2D discovery parameters received from the eNodeB.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the D2D discovery parameters are associated with: a N f parameter for D2D discovery that corresponds to defined resource blocks in a D2D discovery resource allocation, and a N t parameter for D2D discovery that corresponds to defined subframes of the D2D discovery resource allocation.

9. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the D2D discovery parameters are associated with a N f parameter, and the N f parameter is different in a subsequent D2D discovery resource allocation for the second UE.

10. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the D2D discovery parameters are associated with a N t parameter and a N f parameter, wherein the N f parameter and the N t parameter are received at the UE via higher layer signaling.

11. At least one non-transitory machine readable storage medium having instructions embodied thereon for performing device to device (D2D) at a user equipment (UE) in a wireless network, the instructions when executed by one or more processors cause the UE to perform the following:

decoding, at the UE, D2D discovery parameters received from an eNodeB, wherein the D2D discovery parameters are associated with: a N f parameter for D2D discovery that corresponds to defined resource blocks in a D2D discovery resource allocation, and a N t parameter for D2D discovery that corresponds to defined subframes of the D2D discovery resource allocation, wherein the N t parameter associated with the D2D discovery parameters is different in a subsequent D2D discovery resource allocation for a second UE to prevent half-duplexing;

selecting, at the UE, a UE D2D discovery resource from the D2D discovery resource allocation based, in part, on the D2D discovery parameters; and

encoding, at the UE, a D2D discovery message for transmission from the UE using the selected UE D2D discovery resource in the D2D discovery resource allocation.

12. The at least one non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the N f associated with the D2D discovery parameters is different in a subsequent D2D discovery resource allocation for a second UE to achieve frequency diversity.

14. The at least one non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising instructions which when executed by the one or more processors cause the UE to perform the following: monitoring for D2D discovery messages transmitted from other UEs when the UE is not transmitting the D2D discovery message in accordance with a half-duplex constraint.

15. The at least one non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising instructions which when executed by the one or more processors cause the UE to perform the following: selecting the UE D2D discovery resource from the D2D discovery resource allocation based, in part, on the D2D discovery parameters and a cell identifier (ID) associated with the eNodeB.
